Can someone pinch me?
I really hope they can implement customized paint schemes...that would be GREAT! |

Hopefully it's not just faux-racing wrapped in pretty paper.

I think some of y'all are reading way way to much into the NASCAR aspect of this game.
1. This Is Not a NASCAR game 2. This Is Not trying to be a NASCAR game 3. It Will Not replicate NASCAR completely or correctly (rules-wise) GT5 is no different the the 4 full versions and 50 special versions that have come before it. It's a driving game, not really a racing game. It includes some real tracks, it includes some fantasy tracks (most of which are better then a lot of real life tracks), it contains some street cars and it contains some race cars. The NASCAR cars in this game will be treated just like the various real racecars in the game have over the years. Basically you buy it and you drive in any race or "Cup" that it's class is legal in (provided you have the required license to drive it). For anybody that's ever heard of the Monterrey Historics, or the Goodwood Festival of Speed... well GT games are basically a video-game version of that. You have some "one make" or "one style" races (no doubt there will be a NASCAR series like that in the game), but the majority of series (or 'Cups' as they are usually called in the games) are multi-vehicle type. You'll get a race that has a Cup COT, LeMans Prototype, Subaru Rally car, 1993 Civic, etc in the majority of offline races throughout the career. Basically these are going to be like the Stockcars in Forza, or in the TOCA series, but they'll have some NASCAR branding on them. |

most likely there wont even be a "car setup" option! Which would make it extremely pointless. I call fail on gt5.

Anyone else realizing this game is already dated and it hasnt even been released yet? Thanks to the late release, the wing on the COT will be gone in a few weeks. By the time we get this game, we will be stuck with the wing! And please dont tell me thats why the game got pushed backed beyond Mar 2010, because of NASCAR changing the wing to spoiler and Mr K wants to release the game with no obvious blemish.
Why do I get the feeling that the stock cars are only available on a NASCAR track, what few tracks they give us? I bet you CAN'T put regular cars on the track WITH a stock car. Im betting since they are keeping the stock cars on the NASCAR tracks, theres no reason to give us setup options, all the cars will be defaulted with the same setup. Now thats what I call IROC.....oh joy. I wont complain as long as you give us Bristol to race on. |

Anyone else think the cars are a wee bit too shiny? Otherwise it looks very realistic (other than some of the pyhsics, and the oddly forming smoke).

The COT's are 2008 & 2009 models, which means they'll be in the Chevy, Ford, Dodge, Toyota (if they got rights for all 4 makes) dealerships more then likely under the "special" section and they'd be branded for example '2009 Chevy Impala SS NASCAR edition' and then instead of picking the color, you'd be able to pick from whatever liveries they have. Once again just like every other game in the franchise. Oh and uh the Game was NEVER delayed in America, it never actually had a release date in America. The Japanese version of the game is usually released a few months before the game is released in North America & Europe. GT1 = JP- 12/23/97, NA - 5/12/98, EU - 5/8/98 GT2 = JP - 12/11/99, NA - 12/23/99, EU - 1/28/00 GT3 = JP - 4/28/01, NA - 7/10/01, EU - 7/20/01 GT4 = JP - 12/28/04, NA - 2/22/05, EU - 3/9/05 GT5p = JP - 12/13/07, NA - 4/15/08, EU - 3/28/08 GTP = Worldwide - 10/1/09 Tourist Trophy = JP - 2/2/06, NA - 4/4/06, EU - 5/29/06 (not a true GT game, this is a Motorcycle only version of the game) So yeah Japan had a release date of March, the US didn't have any at all. We usually get ours a few months later (March release in Japan would put us probaly around an August/September release, just like the majority of NASCAR games for the past 11 years). However with this GT being their first full game that has online chances are they are going to do a world launch. Basically the career mode aspect of the game (the only mode that people ever really play) is broken down like this.... There are a variety of Cups, some of them are open to every car, some are open to specific classes of cars (Class A, Group C, 4WD, Mid Engine rear Wheel, etc...) There are some where you need a certain license to participate in, there are some that are only for Race cars, some only for Non-race cars, some require Snow/Dirt tires and some require racing slicks, others require Turbo only cars and others N/A cars only. There are also some that require a certain manufacture, and others that are one make races. All the races you have the ability to setup your car, and it's often a pretty detailed setup based on what you can do in real life with what the car has. So yeah unless the GT franchise completely changes the race they do things, it's not going to be nowhere near as limited as you are thinking. |

"Why do I get the feeling you've never even heard of the GT franchise till you stumbled upon this post?"
Oh gee, thanks so much mister for explaining that to me. Ive only been buying GT games since your grandfather was in diapers! To break it down for you, that was a joke. I know the GT franchise like the back of my hand. Like everyone else is saying, this wont be a NASCAR game in the full sense. The cars and tracks they give us will be mere candy, most likely without the tuning options, etc. I will be greatly surprised if they give us more, but my guesses will likely be correct. Hopefully we can fully tune them and take them road racing on the other GT5 tracks. Im not buying the game for NASCAR, I buy it because of what GT has always been, nothing short of awesome each time. In the same kinda way the "Indy" cars were limited in GT4 with those lame 5 lap tires, its what Im expecting from the NASCAR part of this game. In that it will make us smile, but not fully satisfy NASCAR fans. Again, its not a NASCAR game, so Im not expecting much. But you should have seen my face the first time I found out NASCAR was in GT5, walking into a Best Buy and seeing the first demo movie. My jaw dropped to the floor, I was in a trance like I just saw Abraham Lincoln come back to life. Then I had to come back to reality quickly and realize there wouldnt be a points season, etc in GT5, but I was going to be grateful for what they were giving. Frankly, I like the wing better than spoiler as for appearances, looks more like a regular car. Spoiler looks like a stock car, and a stock car hasnt looked like a real car in decades, so, it is what it is. If we are stuck with the wing when it releases, I wont complain, Ill just chuckle because that little "gaffe" will be the truest sign Mr K took too damn long releasing this game. I admire perfection, but you could go on forever in that direction. One day we will all have super high speed internet at our houses, capable of 100 players at once, with no lag. Until our internet infrastructure improves at all homes, going all out on online play is kind of a waste of time. All this to say, release the damn game already!
