If you need to do recovery the best tool out there is SpinRite. It's not the cheapest at $89 but it really works.

Thats why I always burn my stuff on DVD. Losing all my Oblivion, Knights Of The Nine, and Shivering Isles stuff last Christmas was a hard lesson to learn.
