2008 Preview
#: 26
Driver: Jamie McMurray
Sponsor: Crown Royal - Irwin Tools
Make: Ford Fusion
Team: Roush-Fenway Racing
2008 Scheme:

Predictions for 2008: 2007 was yet another disappointing season for Jamie McMurray, filled with potential and bad luck. McMurray finally broke back into the win column with a thrilling victory over Kyle Busch in the Pepsi 400, but that was the only bright spot on a disasterous season that ended up with a 17th place finish in points. McMurray runs well a lot, only to have his race destroyed by, 9 times out of 10, by someone else's doing. The trend in '07 for the 26 team was to be taken out in a wreck, that Jamie had nothing to do with, when they were running well. In order for McMurray to make the chase, this bad luck needs to stop. In 2008, I'm skeptical his chances. I'll put him in the broad range of finishing 10th-20th in points, where he finishes in that spectrum has a lot do do with luck. He's the Joe Nemechek of his generation. I also think McMurray can win again in 2008...1-2 races...maybe...

Please contibute your predictions and comments for this driver, but please remember to be respectful of other's opinions, and keep it clean.

Tomorrow: #28 Travis Kvapil

McMurrary will not stay with Roush-Fenway racing following the 2008 season. What will happen is McMurrary and the entire 26 team will move over to Yates Racing finally turning that program into a 3 car team.

That's assuming Yates Racing survives the 2008 season. With 0 primary sponsors and 2 full time race teams, they're in worse shape than Ginn Racing was at the start of 2007. I'm afraid halfway through Roush and Yates will "merge" (read: Yates Racing dies and Roush is the benefactor) and Gilliland/Kvapil will be moved to Nationwide or Truck teams or released completely.

That being said, Crown Royal is a major sponsor for the 26, and that team is still the '04 Championship team. Crown Royal/IRWIN pay big bucks for that sponsorship, so I don't see the 26 in danger as long as those sponsors remain.

Frankly I think there's a much greater chance that the current #6 team dies after sponsor AAA leaves at the end of this season. Another team will change it's number to #6 obviously, but with all Roush sponsors except that one ending at the end of '08, and 1 Roush team required to die somehow at the end of '08, logically it seems the most likely candidate at this point.

Forecast for McMurray: Party Cloudy or Partly Sunny, however it looks to you.
