Default Dodge to offer no factory support for its NCTS teams in 2009
Just saw this on Jayski:

Quote:
BHR-VA to one team? employees released? UPDATE 3 Dodge confirms pulling series support in '09: Hearing that several employees from Bobby Hamilton Racing-VA were released yesterday, and that they will be running the #18 driven by Dennis Setzer and sponsored by Dodge Dealers. Status of the #4 undetermined at this time.(8-30-2008)
UPDATE: BHR to One Truck for Now: Over the recent break in the truck series schedule the management at Bobby Hamilton Racing decided it was best to shift its focus to the #18 effort and have ceased operations on the #4 entry until further notice. "It was a very tough business decision that was thought long and hard about amongst the owners," said Lori Hamilton, Chief Operating Officer of BHR. "This allows us to pull from our many resources and direct all our focus to the #18 team. Our goal is to win more races thus giving us more exposure and finish this season in the top 10 in points."(BHR-VA PR)(9-3-2008)
UPDATE 2: Dodge not renewing sponsorship in '09: The Dodge livery brightly splashing the #18 for the remainder of the year belies the fact that the manufacturer is not renewing its support of the team at season's end. [Lori] Hamilton said the team has been in talks with Chevrolet, Ford and Toyota for 2009. "Dodge has been a good partner to us and they've built BHR with Bobby to what it is today, so there's a lot of loyalty there," Hamilton said. "I'm sure that another manufacturer would look at how long we've been with them, and that's attractive to them."(ESPN.com)(9-5-2008)
UPDATE 3: The struggles in the U.S. automobile sales market are trickling down to racing, with the latest blow coming to the Craftsman Truck Series. Dodge will not provide any financial support to any teams in the series in 2009, Dodge Motorsports senior manager Mike Delahanty said. "We'll have no factory-funded teams," Delahanty told ESPN.com. "When times are tough, there are certain things that are lower on the priority list than others." Dodge had been a powerhouse in the Truck Series earlier this decade, winning 46 of 99 races from 2001-04 and championships with drivers Bobby Hamilton in 2004 and Ted Musgrave in 2005. In recent years Dodge has scaled back its involvement, with only Bobby Hamilton Racing-Virginia receiving money from the manufacturer this season. Dodge informed the team that its factory support would end this season, and BHR-VA has talked to Chevrolet, Ford and Toyota about a switch for 2009. Delahanty said the manufacturer's involvement with the Sprint Cup and Nationwide Series is unaffected.(ESPN.com)(9-6-2008)

it's a shame, could this be the signal that dodge will pull out of the NCTS? they are struggling to win they have not had a win since Mansfield in 2005 with the late Bobby Hamilton. Toyota, Chevy and Ford have dominated the series, maybe Nissan will enter the series with it's Titan model???

It is most definitely a shame. However, you're incorrect about Dodge not having a win since 2005 at Mansfield with the late Bobby Hamilton. Dennis Setzer won the truck race at Martinsville back in the spring of this year driving a Bobby Hamilton Racing Dodge. Hope this helps.

Well it means that Dodge won't be running any factory-backed teams. Given just how badly Chrysler and the others are doing financially losing billions each quarter, I'm surprised they went this long before that came down.

It is a shame to see history go full circle now though. I remember back in '95 when Dodge came back into racing through this new Truck Series. It took a while but eventually Tony Raines won Dodge's first Truck Series race, and history took a turn from there on that saw Dodge return back into NASCAR's top series. If not for that, Ray Evernham could very well still be Jeff Gordon's crew chief right now.

But this doesn't mean Dodges will vanish from the Truck Series right now. Teams may still choose to run Dodges. Right now it looks like BHR and Green Light still will, but if those teams choose to start running other manufacturers, then there will be no Dodge trucks left. So while there's no guarantee Dodge will go extinct, this means Dodge may go extinct in the Truck Series.

I agree with daveyfan28 that manufacturing help will not be there but in my local newspaper last friday they had a big artical about this matter and the way they it read is that dodge was pulling from the truck series but gave no time frame when it was going to happen or if it will happen at all. If they do pull how long till they worry bout the nationwide series and sprint cup. The only dodge in the top 15 of points so far for cup this season is kasey kahne and he's 13th in the standings. In the nationwide series you have dj kennington and morgan shephard and they are 26th and 27th respectivley.

I believe that BHR might go to Chevy's next year because I think if BHR-V can't drive Dodges, why not Chevys? It's so hard to compete without factory support in the top level. Maybe in the lower levels, but in these highly competitive series it is difficult.
