Man, this kind of sucks. If the economy gets any worse and any more manufacturers go bankrupt then everybody will have to merge and there will be one giant 43 car team. LOL. I can't believe DEI had to merge... twice. I bet if Junior had control his name power alone would have been enough to get sponsors for a couple of years. Too bad.

Heres another one for ya, HOF racing, This would be the perfect opportunity for them to allign themselves with a top caliber operation, (I think JGR is screwing them) I think Stewart-Haas racingwould be a good pairing or the Wood Brothers or maybe GEM. Unfortunately the way the economy is now, a single car team or even a multi-car team without sponsorship cannot survive.

The only reason Brad is in a fifth Hendrick car is because he has less than 10 or so cup starts. The rulebook says that you can have a fifth car, but only for a driver who has never made a cup start to get some seat time in a cup car so it's fine. Teams must have 4 full time teams max (of course Roush Fenway needs to limit to 4 by 2010).

Good question. Yeah, I was talking with my dad a while back about how a lot of teams were having trouble with sponsors. I mean it was only a few weeks ago Kodak pulled out and went to the PGA(?). Though it seems unlikely that the environment will be down real bad (crosses fingers, knocks on wood) what do you think NASCAR would do to try and pull more money? Or will we begin to see races with only 30 cars?

The wheels on this bus continue to go 'round and 'round.
Yesterday the newly merged Earnhardt Ganassi Racing announced the #40 Nationwide Series team has been shut down.
That whole discussion appears to be motivated by language in Martin Truex Jr.'s contract that would allow Truex to leave Earnhardt Ganassi if he doesn't have at least 2 fully-sponsored teammates to race with at all times. Should Labonte drive the #41 Target car, he would count as one of the two teammates, with Juan Pablo Montoya's #42 team serving as the other. Aric Almirola's #8 ride would also count, except the #8 currently doesn't have a sponsor for 2009. Rumors have mentioned Stewart-Hass Racing as a possible destination for Truex should he bolt from Earnhardt Ganassi. Who would replace Labonte in the #43 car? Some signs point to A.J. Allmendinger, who is currently a free agent with Reed Sorenson under contract to drive the #10 car in 2009. Silly Season always having a sense of irony, that would create a small carousel shifting Allmendinger from #10 to #43, Labonte from #43 to #41, and Sorenson from #41 to #10. Click here for more information about the above carousel of drivers. Think it stops there? HA! Petty Enterprises now has apparently an announcement to make regarding its future and Labonte's future sometime later today (Thursday). What part, if any, of the aforemention carousel will be confirmed? Who knows. Be sure to tune into to our next episode of "As our Silly Season Turns."

I read on Fox that Labonte indeed is going from Petty Enterprises and is undoubtedly candidate for the #41. DEI-Ganassi could go strong with the speculated driver lineup Truex, Montoya, Almirola and Labonte.
What a mess those Dodge teams. |
