I saw that crap earlier tonight. The funny thing is they refer to this site as well as many of the N2k3 sites as "low quality, illegal renders", lol! There stuff doesn't look too good compared to some of the renders I've seen guys like Tucknut, DTR, WOsborne, etc do. They actually have Tuck's renders on their how to spot low quality, illegal renders pdf flyer! I love how they say any legal 3d model is never available for free and they have the only good quality models. I just find it all too funny that they feel threatened by all of the gamers, lol. Don't they realize that Jr's Cup cars for this year were designed and also rendered out on these illegal templates and models for Jr to show Rick Hendrick? It must really bug them to have simple guys like us taking their business!

I've known the RPM owner for quite some time, even drove for the RPM Team, that page isn't saying that the models are bad, or shouldn't be used, it's saying they shouldn't be used for commercial use. Just like you'd see an Subway ad on TV saying how McDonald's and Burger King sandwiches have 4 times the fat.

I just find it kind of funny that they feel they need to make a statement about how the "gamer" models, for free, should be viewed as low quality just to pump themselves up. Why would mega companies come to people like us over yourselves, the commercial business for renders?

Who are these people trying to fool? They, of course, developed the 3D models that are used in the COT mod for rFactor, and they also developed the models for Rock 'n Roll Racing's COT mod for NR2003, and their models don't even come close to what the models for the ss.net COT mod look like.
What a bunch of pathetic whiners who obviously can't tolerate any competition. James

What I don't get is this...what makes the models they identify illegal (other than the in-game shots, perhaps)? Aren't they to be considered the work of the artist, renderer, and anyone to whom credit is given? Why is that illegal? If somebody chose to present a real race team with a proposed paint scheme using these models, it would be legal as far as I can tell, as long as proper credit is given to the people that did any of the other work (templates, etc).
What's wrong with that? Sounds to me like they feel threatened because there is a lot of amateur talent out there. The renders we use may not be of the same overall complexity that they use, but to say that they are illegal is just misinformation. |

Maybe it's because they're dealing with companies as opposed to gaming individuals. You know, the, "you wouldn't want to do anything illegal, would you?" kind of mentality. Branding others as "illegal" implies that theirs are the only ones that wouldn't invite a lawsuit. And until a company researches differently and challanges them on it, who's to say they aren't right? They're just getting away with whatever they can get away with.
I do have to wonder about the legality of using others' renders without their permission though. |

They dont mean its illegal to use, they mean its illegal for commercial use (making money off it)
and the SS.net COT models are low Quality compared to how a professional model would be, Game Models have less than half the polys of professional models and as for the render being "low quality" If you look closely, you can see the fenders being a bit square ( on the renders at this site) for their models you would have to have a render a lot bigger to notice it and they are not saying that any good quality model is never available for free, they are saying that any good quality COMMERCIAL model is never free (models you would make money off of) |

I think I just wasted a good 5 minutes reading that. What was the point? Mike24 is right. That sounds like they are VERY insecure and want all the fame to themselves! STUPID!
