Modifieds Return to ASRS June 18th!!!
The ASRS Modified Series is returning on Wednesday, June 18th with support from many modified fans across the country. An 11 night, 13 race schedule is planned to travel to many great short tracks across the United States. The season opens with 150 laps of racing at Florida’s New Smyrna Speedway. A special Twin 50’s format will be used at Mansfield Motorsports Park in early September, a format that was successful at Toledo Speedway in 2007.

“We’re starting from scratch with this series, and hope to see many drivers support it” ASRS President Jim Foose said. “I hated to drop the Modified Series earlier this year and feel this is the right thing to do now. Many drivers support the Modifieds and we want to welcome them to ASRS, with a division they will enjoy. I see this divison as a great part of the rebuilding of ASRS as a leader in sim racing innovation, and I am ready to see it through.”

The Modified Series travels to many traditional modified tracks, such as Thompson International Speedway, Stafford Motor Speedway, Concord Motorsports Park and New Hampshire Motor Speedway. The schedule also features a throwback flavor as events will be held at Dover International Speedway, the Pocono ¾ mile track, and Nashville Speedway USA. New homes to Modified racing, including New Smyrna Speedway and Mansfield Motorsports Park will round out the schedule.

“My plan is to start small and build on this series as we look to the future. I’d like to see it have the growth and support the All American Series had the first six months of its existence, but realize that might be a bit unrealistic. If we can average 14-18 drivers a race, I will be thrilled with this division” Continued Foose.

Blair Thrills Hometown Crowd!

(New Smyrna, FL) The ASRS Modified Series returned to action after a long hiatus and put on another edge of your seat, thrill a minute race.

EJ McDonell started the season off right by winning the Speedway Action Images Pole Award, he was joined on the front row by Cody Blair. Prior to the start of the 100 lap event, the Fast Four dash was run, with Skip Honaker picking up the win at his home track. When the green flag flew it was McDonell slipping out the lead, with Blair closely behind and Honaker trailing behind. The race took a green flag look to it as the first 30 laps were run caution free before Skip Honaker spun. Just after the race restarted Bryan Dehn lost control of his #22 and made contact with Wes Johnston bringing out the 2nd caution lap 36. More trouble for Honaker on lap 56 as again the #2 Corvette spun, bringing out a caution. Richie Coy stayed out on the track and took the lead, a lead that would be short lived as a three car battle for the lead resulted in a 3 car incident off turn 2 which brought out another caution flag, the fourth of the event. The race’s 5th caution flew on lap 76 after contact between Bryan Dehn and Skip Honaker resulted in a third spin for Honaker’s #2, the incident also damaged the #22 of Dehn beyond repair. The race’s final caution flew on lap 85 after EJ McDonell made contact with Jim Foose and sent Foose spinning. With Cody Blair leading the race restarted with 11 laps to go, Blair would lead the final 11 laps unchallenged to win the Modified Seires Opener 100 at New Smyrna, McDonell was 2nd, Coy 3rd, Foose 4th and Wes Johnston in 5th.

The Modified Series gets very little rest as the cars and stars head to Washington State for Twin 50’s at the famed Evergreen Speedway next week. Many new drivers are expected to make the trip out west for the historical event.
