You would want the right side of the spoiler to lay down more then the left side, especially with track being as smooth as it is. Air would then cause more drag on the left side of the spoiler helping the truck turn.

Not to mention less overall drag which would help going down the straight.

They said last night on race hub he gained almost 30 hp from the spoiler falling down. Fisha is right with no spoiler there is less drag which means faster truck.

I was watching the race and I think they didn't talk about the spoiler falling down because they never saw it. They watch what we watch on tv to call the race and I never noticed it until turn 3 and 4 making the run to the checkered flag. They never really had the right camera angle to see it. Now I may have to go back and see a replay and see if I notice when it fell down.

Even with this it was still a special win and I am 100% sure they didn't cheat or mean for it to happen. I mean what kept it from falling down at halfway instead of the end race.

***I just looked it fell in turn 3 and 4 coming to the white flag on the first lap after the restart.

On a superspeedway, half the spoiler being down (doesnt matter which half) would help the car on the straightaways only, by creating more downforce and reducing drag. In the corners, it would not help your car turn on a superspeedway, but in fact do the opposite. The unbalanced downforce would make the car liable to turn 180 at any second.

As far as the penalty, NASCAR's stance wasnt that they intentionally did something illegal. They stated that it was a parts failure, and the spoiler broke. However, to set the precident, they are saying its on you to know whether or not you're putting parts on the car that could break. Some people (within the sport) agree with it, some dont, but NASCAR has the final say. They could know something we dont that isnt going to be disclosed, who knows. Thats where they're at with it though, at least publicly.

The good news with the penalty the #15 is still 21st in points if they did a 150 point penalty like mentioned earlier they would be last so. I think it would have been a 50 point penalty in the old system which would still leave them like 15th in owner points last year.

How much real analysis/care does anyone really expect from Nascar?

25 points is also where they started with the old system. Much less severe, but the room to maneuver was also much wider then. Now that the COT has eliminated almost all of said room, 25 points is still a starting point for an unintentional yet beneficial parts failure.

What I'm slightly curious about is why has nothing happened to cars who benefit from dents, dings, or other damage sustained during the race? It's rare, but there have been cases where damaged cars actually run better than they were, and a couple of them have actually won in the past.

Post Race the only body rules that apply (height/angle/having certain pieces wise) are the spoiler ones.
