Yeahhhh, I got up this morning and it was raining. The weekend is forecasted to be clear, so we should be good.

2013 NASCAR Qualifying Rules (Rain-out Scenarios) (Credit to Jayski):

If practice and qualifying are cancelled [rain, etc], the following procedure is used:

1) For the first three races of the current season the top 36 teams in the previous season owner points would make the race [team doesn't have to had run all the races in that season]. After the first three races of the current season, the top 36 teams in the current season owners points, would make the race.
2) Then any winning driver or team owner from 2012 or 2013, as well as any past champions, make the field.
3) Then, for the first three races of the current season, any of the top 36 teams in owner points for this year would make the field.
4) Then it goes to qualifying attempts this year, with ties broken by owner points.

If first practice is run, but qualifying is unable to take place, the starting lineup will be based on speeds from the car's fastest lap from the first practice, with top-36 in speeds placed in that order. The next six cars use provisionals with the highest on owners points (previous season first three races, starting race 4, current season owners points), not already in the race via speed getting a spot. Then the those six cars are lined up by fastest speed in practice. The 43rd spot is for a past champion to use, if needed. If not, the next team eligible for a provisional gets the spot.

Posting this just in case the rest of the day (NNS/Cup Practices along with Cup Qualifying) is rained out and the field is set by the rules.

Rain has made it's return, just as the track was almost 100% dry for the Nationwide cars to hit the track.

Why do they use owners points from 2012 and not yesterdays practice times?

No, for the first 3 races 2012 owners points are used if needed.

Outsmarted myself this time. Changed my pole pick to Kenseth (had Biffle) thinking that since they had gotten practice in yesterday (#1 and 2) and if it rained out, NASCAR would go back to 1st practice speeds for the Top-36 (see my post on previous page) and Kenseth (fastest in Test/Practice #1) would be on pole.

Well, guess I forgot about the whole 2012 Owner Points deal for the 1st three races in case of a rainout c.c

Yeah, I picked BKez, but do we still get points if it's rained out?

Nationwide Qualifying Cancelled in favor of a Practice Session Tomorrow.

From Jayski.com

Qualifying cancelled in Las Vegas; Vickers on pole: #20-Brian Vickers will start from the pole for the Sam's Town 300 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway after rain washed out all of Friday's on track schedule and NASCAR cancelled Saturday's qualifying so teams could practice Saturday morning instead. #6-Trevor Bayne will start second. The rest of the top 10: #2-Brian Scott, #3-Austin Dillon, #33-Ty Dillon, #22-Brad Keselowski, #12-Sam Hornish, Jr., #77-Parker Kligerman, #43-Reed Sorenson, and #31-Justin Allgaier. Did Not Qualify: #46-Chase Miller, #21-Brendan Gaughan, and #98-Kevin Swindell. The starting lineup is posted on the Las Vegas starting lineup page (pdf).(3-8-2013)

Sucks for Swindell...certainly would've made the field with a Q session.

So that will put BK in the shootout (sprint unlimited) next season. Not really a deserving way to get in.
