I know I'm going to be in the minority, but I'm not diggin it at all. Watching these trucks limp around the track is painful. I cant see tomorrow night ending without a lot of torn up equipment. And torn up equipment costs teams money and more work. Not into it. I might feel slightly different if it were an exhibition, not a points paying race.
I'm not sure what to expect...no one is really running side by side. I think we'll see something similar to Speedweeks where everyone will probably run single file until they get used to the trucks and being on dirt.
I just turned it on. Just to see it. I am with RP on this one. This would be only worst if they were racing on ice.
I have a problem with the name also. The word classic has been thrown around a lot any more. Classic is some thing that has been run or older then 15-20 years. This is not a classic. Its the first year.
Yeah, ARCA has been doing this for years, I think it will be awesome. If you don't wanna race, then just be conservative. Don't strut all your stuff, if there will be a bunch of crashes you'll probably end up in a good finishing position anyways. Most of the drivers love the idea, I don't see why non-race affiliated people are complaining about it, personally. No one's forcing you to watch the event or fix the trucks (of course, I could be wrong).
Hell, I hate seeing torn up equipment as much as the next guy, but that's racing. You are a Nascar driver, so drive and show what you got. This race isn't all about the equipment like most are.
It would be a lot better if the trucks were actually suited to dirt racing. Then the track wouldn't have to be in such a dreadful and miserable condition.
However I don't think the race is going to be boring. Everyone is taking it easy now but when it comes time for the feature there is going to be action everywhere. All the drivers know you can't win by riding single file behind the guy in front. It's going to be awesome and I bet most of the drivers agree even if they have 0 dirt experience.
The ASA Pro Trucks ran a dirt race up in Idaho this year...the only thing they were allowed to do their trucks was cut the splitter off and use a different grille. Oh and they ran on their normal asphalt Hoosier slicks. Turned out to be a pretty awesome race too!
