Your work is so good Mystical. I know that each car varies but what is the average time that it takes you to paint a car? The quality of your work is awesome and you seem to get them done so quickly.
Thanks =)
Yeah my paint schemes do take a long time but I created a system to be able to get a lot done in batches without any rush or loss of quality. I never release a paint until I'm fully satisfied it is the way I want it to look. I think the most simple cars I make (and I use the term 'simple' lightly as in still a somewhat detailed base) take an average of 1-2 hours each. The more complex ones that I've been painting this past week are averaging anywhere from 3-4 hours since I have to do a lot of masking and lining up of images and such.
I usually paint 3-4 bases in a row before I move on to finish each car. While I take all the time for each car individually at heart I am a carset painter making a collection as the end result. I found if I make all the bases first then finish the cars up afterward it goes faster since my workflow consists of Photoshop (make the base) > After effects (compile/detail the base and add logos/numbers ) > Maya (Render scenes). It is very non-traditional. Most just stay in an image editing program but I use after effects to create compositions where I have each template setup all color coded to easily manipulate the layers. Every car I have ever painted has an after effects file. It contains all the sponsors, numbers I makes, images, and my bases.
I think just painting for so many years I've gotten a very fluid rhythm in churning schemes out. I found what works for me and stuck with it fine tuning it all these years. I got a lot of cars coming both for this carset and my collection thread, just need a few more days of free time after work to get them out.
