Oh hey, another race that I’m actually glad I fell asleep accidentally an hour before green in hindsight.

Here is the proposed F1 Grand Prix of Miami layout for 2019 (credit to Jalopnik):
F1 Miami Layout Jalopnik.jpg

Bobby pins, if you ask anyone who likes to pin hair out of their face and eyes, are a good way to keep things under control. But bobby pins are also really easy to lose. Luckily, I think I’ve found all of the bobby pins I’ve lost in my lifetime. They were used to layout the proposed circuit for the Miami Formula One race.

The Miami F1 race, part of a potential multi-year city deal with F1 that would start in October of next year, isn’t confirmed yet. But that hasn’t stopped planers from getting into the details. City commissioner Ken Russell posted a photo of what could be the map for the Miami Grand Prix street course in downtown.

The map includes two huge straightaway sections over the water, which could be a nightmare for wrecks or debris cleanup depending on how F1 approaches it. It takes a second to realize what we’re looking at here, because the map looks more like an unfinished game of connect the dots than an actual race course.

F1 Miami Layout.jpg

Those look a little better, but still hauntingly resemble the ghosts of bobby pins past. (Some bobby pins get deformed along the way, alright?) The course is so tight that it looks like a drag strip with a couple of harsh braking zones, and it has so many turns at 90-degree angles that cars will probably have to yield for oncoming traffic several times a lap.

A tight course isn’t good for passing, which is exactly what F1 desperately needs more of and is trying to encourage. There’s also just not a lot of functionality—while street tracks don’t have to have the same large runoff areas as permanent facilities do in F1, a wreck in the middle of the bridge section could cause a huge delay. That’s because there are currently no places to pull the cars off and out of the way of the field, except for on either end of the bridge.

Maybe this hairpin-filled maze will morph into a better layout before the race potentially happens next October. Maybe it won’t. Maybe the track layout will miraculously be good as is.

But if you’ll excuse me, I need to go make some calls and retrieve all of my lost bobby pins from the people who designed this race track.

I like it. No idea about logistics or any of that but I just looked at the layout through Google Maps and Street view. A lot of work will have to be done obviously, but looks like it would be interesting

Bobby pins, eh? Take off that top portion of the circuit and you've got something entirely different.

That F**cking thing looks like a slim c**k for me...hate it. Just 90° or 180° corners. Why don't the go to classical racetracks...

Reminds me of AVUS a little bit. The hairpins might provide some good passing zones, but we'll have to see a race there first.

Renault hasn't even been the best of the rest this season - Ricky will be lucky to see the podium again.

I don't know how to feel about this... I hate that Daniel's being let go from Red Bull, but I love that my two favorite F1 drivers are going to be teammates!
He’s not being let go, he’s leaving on his own.

This mixes up some stuff. Sainz is 99% set to take Ricciardo’s spot as he was on loan to Renault from Red Bull. Lawrence Stroll was rumored to have bought Force India for cuntbag Lance, but now that rumor has died out. Ocon was supposed to fill a spot at Renault and send us into a wild ride there. This’ll be a crazy silly season where someone gets left out I’m sure.

Renault has to have some amazing plans upcoming, right? Daniel is one of my favorite drivers so hopefully he can find success with Renault.

They currently are the best of the rest, with a small gap over HAAS for that spot. In addition to that, Renault has improved steadily every year since their return, and I think it's likely that trend continues. I'd argue that Danny Ric maybe even accelerates that a little. I definitely see Renault fighting for podiums next season. Hell, Red Bull going to Honda next season could open up the door for Renault to be that third best team next season, and in the races where Mercedes and Ferrari screw things up or are down a little on pace, the door could very well be open for Renault to take a win if the circumstances are right.

Adam Stern dug this up from some Spanish journalist, whether or not it's close is to be determined in the future.

What about Gasley? I think that is more likely.

I am baffled by Ricciardo's move. Maybe he knows stuff that we don't and Renault will be better next year.

Obviously there is something about Renault that we don't know. They must have some big plans up their sleeve, there is no way I see that they get a talented high profile driver like Ricciardo just to flaunt the name. Also Daniel wants to win titles. I think his career will take off next year.

remember that Red Bull will change engines to honda in 2019, maybe Ric is afraid that Red Bull will fall back to the middle of the pack, so Renault is the best available alternative for him.
