NASCAR is announcing their 2020 schedule at 4 PM today on NASCAR.com and its associated digital media outlets, so I figured I'd get this thread started...

Hoping some of the rumors aren't true, as a lot of what I've heard so far, has been uh... questionable...

Particularly the rumor that Daytona's second date swaps with Indy...

Other thing's I've heard are a Pocono double-header, Vegas kicking off the west coast swing as race 2 and it's playoff date moved to October, and Phoenix as the finale while Homestead moves up, potentially early. Supposedly a two week Olympic break too, because everyone cares about that /sarc.

Guess we'll see what's true and what's not, but I don't know if I like most of these rumors...

I agree with you about Daytona. It's meant to be on the 4th of July weekend just like Darlington is meant to be on Labor Day weekend.

Yeah, if that change does happen, then they clearly didn't learn anything when they moved Darlington away from Labor Day weekend. Big shock.

I get it to a point, the beginning of July is a hot time of year temperature wise so they could look at it as fans don't want to sit in the stands in the scorching heat. But that's also a big reason why the race was moved to night. Maybe they're thinking that later in the year could improve attendance cause it won't be so hot.

The talk I had seen though was saying that it's that they would be moving Daytona to be the cutoff race for the playoffs. I don't think that's going to go over well if that ends up being the case. Drivers already don't like Talladega being in the playoffs because the implications the big one can have, imagine if they did use Daytona for the cutoff and a big one happens there. There would be a lot of backlash.

Yes, so any new tracks won't be added until 2021 at the earliest. Doesn't mean they can't drastically shift around what they have now though.

By this logic, why move Indy to July 4th, back into the heat, which was supposedly why they moved that date in the first place. And as for Daytona, I never really thought of that place as one with an attendance problem, unlike other tracks.
And yeah, if it swaps with Indy based on the current schedule, Daytona as the cutoff for the playoffs would be implied. We already know a plate race as a cutoff didn't really "work" as we saw when Talladega was the cutoff for the Round of 12. Both of these reasons makes me discount as nothing more than a rumor, but I figured the talk of them going to what became this year's aero package was nothing more than a rumor too, so... ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Yes, they are. So we can't get crazy new tracks just yet.

Fuck Phoenix being the finale, Homestead has been a really solid race the past few years and Phoenix hasn't proved anything to be worthy of being the finale. Also, yes, Daytona 2 should stay July 4th weekend like always, moving away from that will just piss off people who like tradition like me. And wow, I hope to god we don't get a Pocono doubleheader. It's such a mess of a track, safety hasards everywhere, it honestly shouldn't even be on the schedule in my opinion, and Wickens' wreck there last year proved why it's such a hasard. Also I heard about Daytona being the cut off for the regular season???? Fucking why? They moved Dega away from a cutoff race because it caused too much drama but now they're moving Daytona to end the regular season for more drama...???? I honestly just don't get this sport anymore. I hate that I love it so much.

So they move Indy from the end of July to the last race of the regular season in Spetember, which was the Indianapolis Colts' home opener, and it rained, so those few people who did buy tickets didn't show up Monday. So now they think the low attendance wasn't because of the 100 degree ambient temperature in July and move it back... Now to July 4th weekend, where pretty much everyone would rather drink beer and blow shit up outside than sit inside and watch one hell of a snoozer....

I really hope that isn't real. Talladega 2015 was a complete farce and instead of learning their lesson, they've now made 2 plate races cut off races. Ffs

I feel like Indy is going to be even more ass in 2020, with potential extreme heat and the holiday weekend, you're going to have a lot of people away from the track and/or not tuning in on TV. Perhaps this is a way to put Indy out to pasture.

I honestly don't mind these changes. This is nice to see actually. I really like they are giving another track the last race of the season and we will see Homestead as a regular race. I do hope ISM isn't the last race of the season now for the next 20+ years. Would be nice to showcase different tracks from time to time. As for Daytona I like it is part of the last race of the regular season, this is actually something I would do in my fictional series where a super speedway would be at the end. Now for the first time, I get to see how this would unfold in a real-world scenario lol. I do agree though no longer being on July 4th means no more awesome July 4th schemes all in a giant pack which was cool to see but oh well. The days of seeing a cool #24 Pepsi car with the bright yellow spoiler and fenders are gone anyways ...

The only thing I am confused about is the Pocono double header. Is this like 2 full length races 2 days in a row or a single race just continued?

In the end 2021/2022 can't come soon enough, would really like to finally see some new tracks get added to Nascar one day.
