Absurd Suggestion on Paint templates, or is it?

We have, 1024 - 2048.
However the decals still look pixilated unfortunately.
Am I insane of thinking about the possibility of a template being in 4096?
I realize we will need insanely high-res logo's.
Would the game be able to support it?

Or am I just too insane at the moment. :C ?

I believe the game would be able to support it, as I saw someone post a 4096 template a few years back somewhere...however I think it would be a frame killer in game and I don't think many people's computers would be able to handle a template that size, some still can't handle 2048 lol.

It's actually not as absurd as it might sound. A number of years back, a member of SRD (can't remember who it was at the moment) posted a screenshot of a car done for one of the COT mods on a 4096 resolution template.

I swear i read about a certain man who lets say does some 'musing', having made 4096 Gen6 templates.

To be honest, I don't even use 2048s much as i don't see much added detail vs the performance drop of just making them (of the headache of finding a massive image to use as source for an obscure logo).

I started a 4096 template for the dw12 but choose not to finish it, my machine couldn't even handle it and it's quiet beefy. I guess it would be great for renders and screenshots but not so great for actual gameplay, I even made a car file at doubt 4096 (8192) but the game just screamed at me and promptly crashed after a few rotations in the ui.

I would actually like to see mods released with 4096 templates for those who can paint on them (one of the reasons the 4096 dw12 template never saw the light of day was because none of the paint crew could actually open the PSD file due to it's size) because if you were into that side of things, you could paint in 4096 and create some great renders, and simply reduce the tga to 2048 for import into the game, those who's machines couldn't handle 4096 would just use a resized 2048 template etc.
