I understand why they suspended him, but it's not like he left the kids unsupervised there or that it was a regular thing he was doing, right?

I hope that he doesn't get fired permanently, although for saftey's sake it's obvious a temporary suspension was in order. Jail time would be a bit of an extreme measure don't you think?

Personally, I just don't think it's right.

Well I'm pretty sure a jet traveling at 5 MPH on the ground won't kill anyone.

It's not like the kid was talking on his own. His dad told him what to say. Seriously, if a police dispatcher brought his son to work and let him talk on the radio a few times would that be a problem? If a doctor let his son tag along and help, would that be a problem?

I don't see what the big deal is. The child was in 100% supervision.

According to the article over at BBC News, it's not like the kid is instructing the pilots to crash while grounded.

People can make a big deal out of this, which is way more than it should be.

It's just my opinion, and I don't want to cause another big fight. :D

It's not like the child was giving instructions that could be taken dangerously. If you listen to the audio, the things he says are "AMX 403, Contact departures. Adios"... How in the world can this be "dangerous"

I understand the dad being suspended but ya he was there the whole time telling his son what to say and if something started to go wrong he was there to take over

Okay, it's not horrifically dangerous. It is just my opinion. I personally think that you shouldn't have a kid on the ground control radio. You just shouldn't take the chance. But I am going to stop here....I am not going to get into a fight about something like this.

While everyone has a right to have an opinion, everyone also has a right to disagree.

Sorry, the kid did a good job (better than you or I could do). The planes were only being cleared for takeoff and to change to a departure controler.

As a person who uses flight sims, the kid did better than the programers there did.

I see no harm. Yes his father was right there with him.

No I would not want my doctor to have his kid take care of me.

Back when I was in pre-school (1993 or 1994 I forget exactly) we went on a field-trip to the Lehigh Valley Airport (AKA Allentown-Bethlehem-Easton International Airport) we were allowed to do this, about 5 of us got the chance, basically there was a book with instructions that we had to read. Now it wasn't for a big Jumbo-Jet, just some of the smaller regional planes (like step above lear-jets in size).

Anybody whose ever been on a tour of a tower, ATC is a really really really (like incredibly moreso then you'd think) easy job. You basically sit there and read the same thing over and over basically. And I'm sure with the technical advancements since the last time I've been up in one (1999) that the job is even easier. The people from the last tour I was on back in '99 said the hardest part was trying to understand the pilots with real heavy accents.

Should be be suspended...? Ehh if it wasn't a pre-approved thing that he did, then sure. But nothing more, hell the kid probably did a better job then most people, saying "Adios" to the AirMex pilots was just priceless.

Yeah, it was. If you know my sarcasm, it's always in all caps. The tag was added to mean that what I typed out is blatant sarcasm.

I know the kid didn't mean to force pilots to crash planes into buildings. Jeez, people can blow things out of proportion...
