Well they were side by side and that was about all that happened in that race. I liked the old where you bumped and rubbed your way to the lead. It had emotion it had crashes it was NASCAR. The new version is just a watered down version of what Bristol used to be. Proably one of the worst decisions that was made in NASCAR in the past 10 years. I think that its much harder to pass and that you basicly will stay side by side the whole time and it creates less exciting racing. But this is just my opinion.

Dont blame nascar for the banking changes at Bristol, Bruton Smith owns it and did it. I agree I loved the old way kinda of like I love the old oval Atlanta not the new well its not so new anymore but the Tri oval copy cat.

I guess I just like when drivers race each other hard, weather it be open-wheel or not. I mostly like the contact between cars when they race hard.

Your correct moppenheimer, while it is impressive to go 3 wide without contact, I think alot of people like to see the drivers race each other hard. Thats what open-wheel racing lacks. Don't get me wrong, they can race hard but you just can't rattle anyones cage by giving them a little nudge.

My problem with Open-Wheel is that when I see that sort of 3-wide action, it just doesn't feel as in your face as the stock-cars make it feel. It just lacks that intimidating quality that a stock-car has.

Yeah I know he does and I think he made a big mistake. I also think that the old Atlanta was better too. The track was very original, but its still a great track too.

Well, the OWers can't afford to even nudge each other. Bear in mind that those things are fragile.

Well, mostly fragile.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I wanna say he re-did Atlanta so he could add more seats.

And its quite strange how they took the finale from Atlanta, to Homestead, which is in essence an old Atlanta clone. (Minus the progressive banking)

Not really. Homestead has much longer straightaways than AMS-the oval had.

I cant remember why they changed Atlanta. They also changed homestead from its orginal design but that came after a few drivers died.

Didnt they change Homestead 3 times? I think they did but cant remember anyone else know?

How I think it might have happened:
1. Original funny shapped track

2. Oval with low banks

3. Oval with higer banking.

I think it was an oval then they made it more like indy and then put progressive Banking in

That's how it happened. But honestly, I think that the first version of Homestead was more like a rectangular Flemington than Indy.

Yep your right I read it on the Wiki page track is based of Indy. It was changed because the passing was harder because of the shortness of the track and the server crash angles.

No, not at all. Flemington was a square and had little to no banking. It was like driving in a circle.

Also, it took a driver's death to change the track...

I hate him, I've said things about him, but hey, we've been down this road before. He's gonna keep dominating until something gets in his way. I'm not wasting my breath anymore.

see, for me, that threat of danger is what motorsport is about and what makes it such an amazing sport. Its never good to see a driver hurt or killed, and id never hope for that, but the danger is what makes it so rewarding. Ive driven karts for years, and did a little scca, and not once did i fear for my safety. I always sort of had the attitude of, if i get hurt or worse, it was doing something i love. imo, thats part of the problem with modern motorsport, f1 in particular. Everything has gotten so sterile that it's become somewhat boring. Safety is a good thing, but it when it begins to affect the competition, whether it be the cot in nascar, or the tracks in f1, its not good. progress in one area, while going backwards in another, is not what we need.

Well in all fairness it says on the Wiki page that the track was hard to pass on and created bad racing, but it also talked about the bad crashes aswell. I agree sometimes saftey gets out of control and hurts the racing.

Forgot to also mention that Flemington was a much safer track. It had soft walls (actualy softer than the SAFER Barrier, but that happened because there were bad crashes after it was paved).
