Microsoft Security Essentials is surprisingly great. I use that and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware.

I use webroot anti-virus... It's not free though.

AVG is great and totally free. You can set it up to update by its self.

AVG. Knock on wood...in over 4 years of using it on my various Windows systems...knock on wood harder...I have never had a virus issue. Keep knocking on wood.

I have been very, very happy with how it works. 2011, if great. Its free, but it doesn't lack in quality. My Dad's old company uses it company wide (albeit the paid version)...nonetheless, I highly recommend it. :)

Also...if you are looking for a less conventional, albeit the strongest, solution to virus issues...you could always make the change to Ubuntu! :)
