I could've sworn back before Daytona, that on Jayski's 2014 Driver/Team Chart AND on the NNS News Page, it said how Drew Herring was promised the the #20 at Chicagoland in September. This week, it says Denny is driving the #20. I find both those things a tad bit unusual. Any NASCAR extremists have an answer to this one?

Not really and answer, but it irritates me how Gibbs uses his development drivers. Drew Herring has shown promise and constantly gets shelved for other drivers, and outside of two, MAYBE three races a year (this year, zero, I believe) he's gotten no shot whatsoever. It's disappointing. Part of me even wonders if he's with Gibbs anymore.

You may have remembered incorrectly. And some kind of contract could have changed since then

I'd assume he got fired being we haven't seen him at all this year AND we're seeing Denny to drive this weekend instead of the usual Matt Kenseth/[insert development driver here] sorta thing. I guess same deal goes for Max Gresham. Won a K&N Title with JGR. He's only run 2 National series races this season, and neither of which were for JGR or Toyota in general for that matter.

Sport Clips never was going to sponsor Herring, Denny was scheduled for the Chicago race, not Drew Herring. Drew Herring was supposed to race Chicagoland I, but that deal fell through.

You must be remembering incorrectly. There's nothing on the NNS news pages about Herring aside from his participation in the Denny Hamlin Short Track Showdown, and Jayski's driver chart is often incorrect and unofficial.

2 words that should never go together. Joe Gibbs and Development Drivers. Erik Jones and Bubba Wallace are doomed going to JGR

Never really understood the way Gibbs and especially Roush handled their driver development programs.

So, why was the Sport Clips racing website advertising Drew driving the No. 20 for Chicagoland I since February? They have changed the website now but using the magic of the Internet.

February 8th - Proud Sponsors of Nascar and JGRMX | Sport Clips Haircuts for Men

June 25th - Proud Sponsors of Nascar and JGRMX | Sport Clips Haircuts for Men

You don't see Denny Hamlin on the list either. So, unless they completely screwed the pooch on their website.. Drew was supposed to drive this car. LOL.

JGR seems to have released Herring since the release, so they probably just changed the driver

Yeah, well guess what? Denny Hamlin is a better driver than Drew Herring, and it's not July anymore. Denny was slotted in the 20 for Chicagoland for the past three weeks, and he is racing this weekend, per agreement from Sport Clips and JGR.

I want you to show me the article or thread or whatever that was put up 3 weeks ago and said that Denny Hamlin was to drive this car :-/

Also, don't be rude. And don't make assumptions on which drivers are better. I personally think Herring is a FANTASTIC driver who attempted to work up the JGR ranks, and well, we all know how that goes. So don't down him.

SURE! And I'm the president of Kazakhstan! Sir, have you been drinking tonight? :-/

You call me rude and reply with a rude comment. I have worked with Joe Gibbs Racing for two years, and I designed Billy Kann's 18 in the K&N Pro Series. The 19 for Carl Edwards? Will be mine.

Someone wanna clarify this for me? My head's in a bit of a loop right now. Can I get someone OTHER than Adam to clarify that this guy works at JGR? Preferably a mod, but any help works.

How are we suppose to confirm where he works? We don't follow his personal life. Either cool off or we're closing the thread. That goes for everyone..

You came into this thread and stated 'Sport Clips never was going to sponsor Herring' and I posted screen shots from the Sport Clips Racing website that from February to June that Sport Clips were going to sponsor Herring at Chicagoland.

I apologize if you believe my post was rude because that wasn't the intention. I'm simply pointing out the fact that Sport Clips had been advertising Drew to run an entry with their livery since the start of the season. That obviously changed and that's fine. However, 'never' is a strong word and clearly at some point this year.. Drew was gonna drive a Sports Clips car.

I do apolagize for the use of "never" The plan initially was to put Herring in the first Chicagoland race with Sports Clips, however it fell through. Denny is running this weekend, for extra track time, and sponsorship from Sports Clips had already been in place for this weekend, on the 20 car.
