I'm not going there even if you do a reset.

I have been in this community for 11 years now and the biggest crock that has come out of it in recent years is the 'need' to register to a site in order to download something. what is the point in that?

Sure sometimes it takes just a few minutes, but other time's its a PIA.

And for what? Really what is the benefit of making people register? It worked just fine for years without needing to register to download a simple file. Am I really supposed to remember 25 different log ins, for 25 different sites, that I may use once or twice a year? And you can never make them the same log-ons because each has differing requirements.

When did it come to this? Originally this community was about helping each other in the easiest and most concise way possible. Now I know precisely where to find something, yet I cannot access it because the site will not recognize the captcha (I'd like to kick the creator of that square in the balls) and am left creating them myself.

Do I mind doing them myself? No, but I would think in this day and age a better system could be instituted. Hell maybe we should set up our downloads to members only. Seems like everyone else does

After reading your rant, I am compelled to respond. I would respond at RURA, but I have been banned some time ago, although since your upgrade to your forum software, I guess you guys forgot to update your banned list and I am able to view and register at your site again. And like you I find it annoying to sign up at a website just for 1 thing on my mind (respond to you). Ironic isn't it?

First and foremost, SRD is a forum. Much like what you moderate at RURA. Unless you know of a way for your members and mine NOT to register with the software we use, and NOT have SPAM bots overriding our forums, I am all ears.

That being said, being a forum that SRD is, we also offer downloads to our members, image hosting and the obvious, places to talk in forum specific area's. If you took less than 30 seconds at our forums, you would have noticed a forum specific to your needs, in which you DO NOT need to be logged in, register or anything else. You just goto the forum, ask your question or report your problem, and someone would take care of it. You'll notice this forum as it it is the only one without a locked forum icon on it for unregistered or logged out users. But I guess whining about you not remembering your password and having to actually use your brain for a couple of minutes was just too hard for you to do.

So in your immature way, as most of your mods and owners are over there, you bash my site, and anyone else's who make you register. Not to mention acting rude to someone who was willing to help you.

To wrap this up so you know exactly where I am coming from (just in case you don't yet, I know your a little slow at things), we (meaning SRD) are a community. As a community we are here to help and offer what little services we can in our spare time. If taking a little bit of your time is too much to ask, by all means, don't bother.

But when someone offers to help you, there is such things called manners and respect. You showed none of the two, so reap what you sow. But then again, I wouldn't expect anything less from a mod at RURA.

You know that Firefox has a setting for a master password and/or have it remember all of your log in's for you. You can even go a step further and save all of the sim racing sites to a folder in your book marks so they are easy to get back to. You can even name them whatever you want so you can remember why you liked that site. But again you failed show that you posses the capacity of abstract thought. I'm sorry for you.

Honestly, I think it's really sad that we need to have arguments and flame wars about having to log in at a website in order to download free additional game content.

These painters spend hours of their free time to produce work for your benefit without asking for a single cent in return, and you're going to complain about having to take five seconds to enter a login and a password? Amazing.

Sorry if it really frosts your doughnuts to have to do that, but if your life is that perfect that logging in is the largest annoyance in your life, I'd swap places in a heartbeat. Truth is that the internet is not the relatively unknown & safe place that it was 5 years ago. There are malicious people that we need to protect ourselves from in order to survive as a website. That may require things like entering a log in and password. That's just the way it is.

...seriously...if you don't have 5 seconds to type in your login to get to the top notch services we offer...then i guess you really don't want them...

And if you are going to act like that towards someone who tries to help you...we really don't need you at SRD...

Which, even if it was true doesn't really fly. I've been around longer than they have, and you don't see this site acting with that kind of attitude.

It only makes us look like a group of people willing to bring something as foolhardy as this into the light to show how petty some people can be, and how sad it can be when people make issues out of the most petty things in life. Seriously, it's a login/password requirement. Oy.

I don't, or I hope that this thread doesn't turn into "I hate RURA because of this or that". That wasn't my intention in starting this.

I posted this because I didn't want to sign up again at RURA, and considering I was banned, I am assuming they want me to stay away and not post. But I happened to be up late last night, and was surfing around and RURA came to mind for a place to go visit since it has been a while.

I saw what phathead had to say, which I didn't have a problem with until he decided to be a prick to Jason for what I don't know. All he had to do was say thanks, but no thanks. He didn't, it pissed me off and I spoke about it. I don't even know if he will get this message or not. I am assuming he would considering there are members here that go over there.

Either way, I am sure he won't lose any sleep over what I said,and vice versa. But as I said in my original post, I was compelled to respond to him since he wanted to rant, and so did I
