Baker Curb losing RedMan sponsorship: Allen Bestwick reported during ESPN2's coverage of the Nationwide Series race that RedMan, the sponsor of the #27-Baker Curb Racing team, would have to be off the car by the end of June due to new federal regulations on smokeless tobacco products.(4-30-2010)

Yes the title is a shot at him, but he has to sign it into law so in a direct way he is responsible.

I find it funny, you can advertise Hard liquor (which kills more people each year then all Tobacco forms combined) and you can advertise pills for E.D..... but heaven forbid you advertise Tobacco.

Well, as sucky as this is for them ... with the way they are running, they should be able to find another sponsor.

Just thinking about it the #33 Truck will need to find a new sponsor as well.

Your quote: find it funny, you can advertise Hard liquor (which kills more people each year then all Tobacco forms combined)

People kill THEMSELVES by using those products. I hate when people say "oh this kills" or "guns kill". No...

Also Baboonster, it's not as easy as it sounds to get a sponsor. Even when running good. It sucks this crap has to happen. World as we know it is slowly but surely headed to a new (worse) direction.

I was looking at a picture of the car....

I say they keep the Indian head on the hood and then just replace the text with Barcodes like Marlboro & Lucky Strike did in F1.

This really is the end of an era. I don't think I've ever seen a single paint scheme for a car sponsored by Chew that was bad.

The Skoal Bandit and all its variations, plus the Levi Garrett scheme Geoff Bodine drove for years, are amongst the greatest schemes of all-time.

I know it sucks for the team, but it really is a good thing that these kinds of sponsorships are banned.

I remember walking around Phoenix Int'l Raceway's midway as a kid and looking at the Smokin' Joe's trailer. (Camel cigarettes, the company behind Smokin' Joe), was sponsoring the #23 Travis Carter team then.) They required anyone going in the trailer to be 21 or over. But, since I really wanted a Smokin Joe's #23 diecast car to complete my field for that year, I wasn't going down without a fight. Once the morons running that trailer let me in, the people inside actually offered me a sample of Camel cigaretts!!! I could have been addicted to nicotine as a freaking 11 year old, just because I wanted a diecast car that I couldn't find anywhere else. I also walked away with a bunch of Smokin' Joes advertising that they were only too happy to hand over to me. It didn't matter to me much then, but now looking back on it, it's amazing to think that that actually happened.

The OP is correct about the discrepancy with hard liquor brands. I wholeheartedly disagreed with lifting the ban on those, even though it made life a bit easier for RCR & RFR. That ban needs to be reinstated ASAP, IMO.

I am sorry you ran into a bad bunch but I think this is stupid for the goverment trying to control every damn thing. Look they are already after Ronald Mcdonald, Next the goverment bans fast food companies from Advertising. Also as much as I would love to blame Obama for this, all the this started under the Clinton era.

How can you not bring up politics on a politically-influenced subject? If the government is limiting a brand from sponsoring, doesn't that make it political?

There was an ad campaign a few years ago here in the UK in whcih two guys are sitting in a bar and one mentions the goverment and his friend cuts him off by saying "Ah ah ah I don't do politics." The rest of the ad showed the No Politics guy starting to gripe about waste collection, parking tickets, the price of a beer and a load of other stuff and every time his friend cut HIM off by saying "Ah ah ah YOu don't do politics." The tagline was "If you don't do politics, there's not much you do do." It was subtle and clever and it's never been truer, politics is in everything and the head in the sand approach wont get you too far. Better to learn that lesson before it bites ya in the ass like me.

And yes I'm aware I just said "do do" in a post
