Hey everyone. I'm currently doing a build of my area's local track (coming along very very nicely, too!). It's called La Crosse Fairgounds Speedway in West Salem, WI.

I drive in the Sportsmen division there every Saturday night, and thought it would be a fun time to bring the track to simulation life. Someone did a version of the track about 11 years ago, but it wasn't accurate really at all.

Anyways I'm starting from scratch. Probably a good 30% into it now and I'm really only missing a couple things I need to really get the track looking perfect and that is bench style seating and large tractor tires.

Tires I know I'll be able to find somewhere but I have yet to come across a track that is equipped with bench seating. I have the software I need to make my own 3Do's but as of this point I have no learned how to properly design in the programs.

Have any of you come across a track that you've seen bench style seating on that may be of some use to me? I'd certainly appreciate any leads!

Cheers
Bill

I would like to do the same thing for a long gone local track (Corona Speedway Corona California) but haven't gotten around to it yet, so I aplaud your efforts.
Can't help out with your needs, but I do support your vision!

Show us picture of what you're referring to as bench seating. Perhaps I can steer you in the right direction. Same thing with the tractor tires. I have an enormous file of objects for short tracks.

La Crosse Speedway Bench Seating & Tires

Thanks for taking a look thru your collection for me! Here's some pictures I took for the purpose of track building. They're pretty standard wooden long benches. The tires are huge painted red/white/blue but MIPs I can do quite well. 3Do's on the other hand. Outta my league! lol

If you want to see/need to see more photos, I've got loads.

Almost all of the short tracks for NR2003 have grandstands like the ones you showed pictures of. The difference is that they aren't totally 3 dimensional, but they do give a nice "illusion" of 3d. Open up the newest Oxford Plains track or the Beech Ridge track in Sandbox and you'll find a bunch of those grandstand objects.

Now for the grandstands that have benches secured to the sloped cement surface, one way to make those is to create a slope for that area with x sections. Texture that slope with concrete and then drop in one of those grandstand objects and lower it so only the benches part of that object shows above the surface level.

As for the tractor tires, take a look at SteveB's Coronado track. If I remember correctly there are a bunch of tractor tires in that track.

The best way (and the way most of us short track guys have learned this short track Sandbox stuff) is to peruse several good short tracks, open them up in Sandbox and look at how the respective authors of those projects did things. You'll be surprised how much you learn that way. :)

I've actually been having a few issues with banking and I'm not entirely sure why that it's happening. I have the track setup as such. There's a flat outta part to the sections...then the outside wall. track is banked 5 degrees in straights, about 9 in the corners. The apron doesn't flatten, it's actually banked down another 4 degrees (our infield is designed to keep the cars in it once they slide in). then of course it levels out to zero degrees on the infield.

The issue I'm having is, for some reason, no matter how many X-sections I put in I can't get the banking to change anymore... as i'm writing this I think I just figured out why... it's because it doesn't go all the way around the track. I was doing just a single section. Thanks, me, for answering my own question while typing this.
