If that's all that mattered, Kurt Busch would still be the driver of the #22, and Kyle Busch would have raced w/ M&M's on his car at Phoenix & Homestead.

Correction: Kurt could still be at Roush and Kyle would most likely still be at Hendrick.

It IS with some sponsors, but not all. Shell/Pennzoil put up with Harvick and then Kurt, and we do not know that it was Pennzoil that fired Kurt, it could'vee been Roger's decision.

Shell is with Penske for much more than NASCAR, the deal also ment they are the offical oil of Penske Truck Leasing. I dont think Kurts seperation had a lot to do with the sponsor but more because of his public slander and disrespect for Rogers team. But I am sure all parties involved including Shell were tired of the constant bad media coverage (Kurt Busch Radio Sweetheart) . Kurt dose have a bit of a super-ego issue.

There is definitely some truth to this rumor from what I hear. For Best Buy, it makes much more sense to align yourself with a proven winner rather than someone who still has a ways to go!

It dpends on the sponsor. Some care more about their logo running up front and being on camera more than publicity through a spokesman. They are after the visual of their logo.
Kurt stands a much better chance of delivering on that than AJ does. Kurt stands alot better chance of driving the 43 to victory lane than AJ does.
If a sponsor is concerned with image and a likeable spokesperson than they wuld choose AJ over Kurt.
Kurt has a lot better chance of getting dealt penalties for reckless driving and disrespect toward the media than AJ does. Kurt stands a lot better chance of getting fired again for his ego and temper than AJ does. Kurt has a better chance of getting sponsors ticked than AJ does. Shall I continue?

A little of column A and a little of column B...

But he still stands a better chance of winning a race, and a championship.
I'm not arguing his attitude problem, but, he has more talent.

4Wide, to be fair, Kyle's attitude wasn't why he was booted from Hendrick. That didn't really start to take center stage until he was with Gibbs.

Kyle's contract was up at the end of the 2007 season, and Hendrick didn't resign him, signing Jr. instead. Mears still had another season left, and he had won the Coca-Cola 600 that year and had his best career season, so Hendrick saw upside.

That's what I thought but I've seen here on SRD a lot about Kyle was kicked out of Hendrick because of how he acted.

Well, then those people would be wrong, lol.

Kyle, outside of bailing on his wrecked car at Texas in '07, never acted out like he has at Gibbs, at Hendrick. At least in the public eye.

Hendrick was actively persuing re-signing Kyle till Jr. became available. Jr. doesn't provide the headaches of Kyle and he sells MEGA merchandise which is big $$$$$ for ol Rick.
Kyle's problems didn't really start manifesting till after Hendrick.

And Jr had signed a contract with Rick years before on a napkin. XD

But it's not what we thought. They are going the way of UPS.

According to Jayski, they will only be on the 17 for 9 races. And...Edwards continues to hoard sponsors...they will be on the 99 for 2 races.

I hate to see sponsors cut way back in their sponsoring but at least they didn't leave all together like some of the sponsors. I wonder what RPM will do for sponsorship now, hopefully not get Kurt for the #43.

Even with all of the sponsors Carl still only has 24 races with primary sponsorship announced.

I have to believe that this:

had something to do with it.

I'd like to see someone paint a #99 car with all its 2012 sponsors on it somewhere. That'd be something.

^Speaking of that...

Mike Mackler just posted this over at The Pits Comic...lol

“…and we’re here with Carl Edwards, who’s coming off a banner year, tied for the points championship but lost to Tony Stewart–Carl, what are you doing to get the car into Victory Lane in 2012?”
“Well, first of all, its great to be back racing again. We pulled into Speedweeks with a REALLY fast Fastenal Best Buy Kellogg’s Frosted Flakes Cheez-It UPS Scott’s Ortho Aflac Subway Valvoline Roush Fenway Ford Fusion, came off the truck with some GREAT speed. We think if we can stay out of trouble, we can get this Fastenal Best Buy Kellogg’s Frosted Flakes Cheez-It UPS Scott’s Ortho Aflac Subway Valvoline Roush Fenway Ford into Victory Circle here at Daytona.”
“You’re qualified for the Budweiser Shootout, are you going to be using that as a testing session, or just having some fun?”
“Well, really, any time you get paid to drive this Fastenal Best Buy Kellogg’s Frosted Flakes Cheez-It UPS Scott’s Ortho Aflac Subway Valvoline Roush Fenway Ford its fun, but we’re going to be seeing how the Fastenal Best Buy Kellogg’s Frosted Flakes Cheez-It UPS Scott’s Ortho Aflac Subway Valvoline Roush Fenway Ford holds up with the new drafting rules, trying out some new set-ups with Fastenal Best Buy Kellogg’s Frosted Flakes Cheez-It UPS Scott’s Ortho Aflac Subway Valvoline Roush Fenway Ford crew chief Bob Osborne, and making sure all the guys on the Fastenal Best Buy Kellogg’s Frosted Flakes Cheez-It UPS Scott’s Ortho Aflac Subway Valvoline Roush Fenway Ford are ready for when the pitstops count.”
“There you have it from Cousin Carl, now lets see what Bobby Labonte’s up to…”
