JTG Daughtry Racing Looking to Add a 2nd Sprint Cup Team in 2013 (Credit to Jayski):

Mike Bagley, co-host of The Morning Drive on Sirius XM NASCAR Radio 90 reports via Twitter that JTG Daugherty team owner Brad Daugherty told them that they [JTG Daugherty Racing] are looking to add a 2nd car in the 1st half of this [Sprint Cup Series] season. The team currently runs Bobby Labonte in the #47 Toyota. Rumors in late 2012 has David Reutimann as a possible driver for a 2nd JTG Daugherty car in 2013

Somewhere, someplace over the rainbow Dan Asher is rejoicing
EDIT: Damn, he beat us to it.

I don't understand why JTG would expand to 2 cars if they can barely run well with 1 car. Unless Reuti has full sponsorship (or a merger with Xxx?) I don't see this happening. I'd love for it to happen, but I just can't see it.

They started running better at the end of last year and sometimes having a teammate can really help the whole program.

This. JTG has the potential to be a consistent top 20/top 25 team on all tracks, not just short tracks and road courses if there is a 2nd team. The magnitude that sharing data has is tremendous. Look how much Dale Jr. improved when he started sharing data with Jimmie Johnson (yes he had other teammates but he moved into the 48 shop from the 5 or 24 shop and improved immediately); the value of a teammate can often be undervalued, especially for a single car team.

JTG was a satellite MWR team until 2012. The owners, and Bobby Labonte, said at Daytona that they weren't expecting to be as competitive out of the gate - being on their own. I think they turned it up towards the end of the year.

If Toyota is giving them some money, I think this is a great move. It is damn-near impossible to be competitive with a single-car team today.

Well I sure hope you guys are right, I'd love to see more competitive teams around, especially with the like of Reutimann and Labonte (even though he may be retiring soon, who knows).
