With practice just two days away, I'd figure I'd start this thread early. So, what are your predictions for the Shootout?

I predict a fast, competitive race in which nobody holds back on the new surface. At least one big crash will happen in the second segment, likely started by KevCon getting lapped .

I think Harvick will not win his third in a row, but someone rather unlikely will take the win. Mark Martin, Joey Logano, and believe it or not, Regan Smith, are my darkhorses. My favorites are Earnhardt Jr., Harvick, Edwards, and McMurray.

What do you guys think?

Hard to beat those boys behind Earnhardt Childress Engines. Harvick is one the best at SS racing. But Jamie Mac is right there with him.

I'm thinking Kasey Kahne or Bobby Labonte. Not sure why.

It's going to be an awesome race. For once I am going to stay home on a Saturday night, turn my cell phone off and enjoy. I've not been this pumped for NASCAR in years!

I'll go with Kasey Kahne or Jamie McMurray

I predict an awesome race with a really lame finish since the two-car draft works at Daytona now.

My prediction for the winner is, as always, Jeff Gordon, but I have a feeling that that won't happen.

Really upset that I have to miss this for Indoor Percussion....I'm praying for rain. (Don't throw stones.)

I'm picking KevCon. :p Only if he doesn't fall off the pace too early.

I'd say Kahne has a good shot.

Says the guy with the 29 avatar. ;)

Were you joking or are you really picking Conway? I'd love to see the odds on that pick. Probably somewhere around a billion to one. ;)

I would definitely say look out for Jamie Mac. I actually picked him last year to win the 500 (among friends and some pools) and most people didnt think it was a good pick. He has become one of the best plate racers in the game and really knows how to get it done. On top of that, DEI (EGR) has always had one of the best plate track programs since the beginning.

Other than that, I'd say watch for the usuals - Harvick, Jr, Smoke, Burton, Bowyer to name a few.

My darkhorse would be Mikey Waltrip. Alot of people dont expect him to do anything now-a-days but the man knows how to plate race.

But its true he is one the better drivers out there. I would put JR there but since going to Hendrick except for a few races I just dont see the JR that was in the 8. I dont know really its all luck and who play chess better =P

theres no way Mark Martin wins a restrictor plate race. He is just too soft and non aggressive to win one of these things. Now harvick is my favortie driver but that is NOT why I'm picking him. He's the 2 time defending champion and is a stud at daytona. Now with that being said I think anyone can win this thing. Have a feelign Jr might do something as well. Keep an eye on mikey too

Realistically, McMurray and Harvick will probably write another chapter in their long book of epic plate-race duels. Who shall emerge victorious, I cannot say.

You really think so? In 07 he just missed winning the 500 by .02 of a second to Harvick. It was probably about 3 inches or so. Not to mention, he was in equipment owned by Bobby Ginn that wasnt nearly as good. He's also ranked 8th behind Smoke among active drivers as far as average finish in plate races. Pretty damn good in my opinion.

If the Hendrick engines can keep up with the RCR and JGR and Ganassi guys this year... then I pick Smoke to win everything at Daytona.

Oh yeah, I forgot NASCAR changed the shootout so Reuti missed it.

SEE YA NEXT WEEK.
