Basically, what is the bump map layer used for?

I have searched every which way for any help. I get the feeling that my car(s) would benefit from it but cannot for the life of me figure out how to use it.

I'm using PSP9 if that helps any. And using SRD____COT2009 templates. But most of the other templates also have one also.

My first time using any COT templates, and haven't painted anything for quite a while but it's slowly coming back to me. Only had ever used the original B. Simpson temps.

Is bump a layer? If your talking about the file, it's used for rendering but I don't know why you got it with a template unless it's a template with a scene or a one of a kind template. In any case, the bump is mainly used for rendering purposes. Not useful in Photoshop.

Thanks, I'll just leave it off. I was just wondering if I was missing out on something. The templates are a lot more sophisticated than I remember. Makes putting together cars a lot easier.

Yes, it is the layer after the credit layer. (at least in the templates I d/l from SRD)

That bump map was put on the template to be used as a .jpg or .bmp bump map for rendering in 3dsMax, it was put there so you wouldn't have to make the bump map from the template, as stated before it has no use for photoshop or painting, just keep it turned off.
