This has happened atleast 10 times already so it's not a coincidence, what happens is that half way through the first lap at any track the car shadows underneath disapear. They then flash rapidly spiking the frame rate down to 4 fps finally I have to press ctrl alt del bring up the task manager and end the process because the cpu usage for the game is over 1,000,000. One other thing that happened was I went to race at Watkins Glen 2011 and there was no sky just the nr2003 menu merged with the track.
The only thing I did from the time the game worked normaly to the time it craped out was took someone's advice and added 3 zeros on the rend_dxg the number doesn't even has zeros and it's about 9 numbers long. I've tried unistalling the game and it still doesn't work can anyone please help.

So you changed something, and what? Didn't think to change it back?

Do as NASCARWolf says, that three zeros thing has been a crock ever since someone suggested it. I use -1 and it clears my graphics right up. It's not adhering to the best graphics calculations for my laptop, but frankly the number of horror stories I've read concerning people trying to optimize their graphics doesn't seem to make it worthwhile.

Put -1 in the rend_dxg line AFTER you've configured the graphics for your reinstalled game.

Yes I did change it back I thought it was the obvious thing to do, so there was no need to mention it. When I did it got worse the game crashes twice as fast and is blurrier than crap. All I was wondering was how to fix this not get it thrown back in my face. I tried the -1 thing: didn't work, tried re-installing the game: didn't work. I don't need any tweeks because I don't care how my graphics look as long as they look normal and the game works and it did. All i'm asking is why the rend_dxg number stayed the same after I re-installed the game that is my problem that is what needs to be fixed.

P.S. Next time when giving advice don't be such an ass on your opening line. (y)

Just how I am in real life mate, don't take it so personal.

If you've changed it to -1 after reinstalling and done so AFTER configuring the graphics then maybe your graphics card is kaput. Run it without shadows and see if that helps.

Watch out you might get suspended by NASCAR, lol

No1JGfan try doing a system restore in widows to before you made the graphic change. You may want to check your graphic card out to see that its working properly also. This would be my starting point.

No1JGfan, more than likely you fried your video card by adding those 3 zero's.

What's your computer spec's? If you have a laptop, nevermind, you are on your own with those hunks of **** that aren't meant for gaming.

How that for being an ass? lol

Hmm...How exactly can one fry a videocard by changing the texture size?

Are you having problems with other games? If your having issues in just nr2003, this is a software problem and most likely not a hardware issue.

[EDIT] It won't,lol. I thought he was adding 3 zero's to his MaxBlockSize in core.ini.[EDIT]

Not sure what adding 3 zero's to the TextureSetSize will do. The most the exe allows is 100, never heard of someone trying to add 3 zero's to that setting before.

You're asking the video card to supply more memory to nr2003 than it has. Thus, smoking your memory chips on your graphics cards. Which leads to freezing graphics, random crashes, and the occasional blue screen of death.

I'm sorry Matt...but this just isn't true. I agree that asking your videocard to supply more memory than it can could cause crashes in the program or the graphics driver, but it would not cause permanent damage. He may have a faulty videocard but changing the texture size didn't burn it up. OP, are you overclocking anything?

Re-read my post, I thought he was talking about MaxBlockSize. If he changes that setting by adding 3 zero's it will fry your memory chip, they will get too hot because it's trying to supply memory it doesn't have. Thus, rendering your video card useless.

Matt, I'm sorry but it doesn't work like that. Memory is controlled by voltage and speed. The only way it could burn up is if its got too hot due to old thermal compound, the memory has been overclocked, the memory is no longer making contact with the heat sink for whatever reason or there is a ton of dust in the videocard causing it to get overly hot. If your saying memory burns up because its all being used, then I would have burned my 580 gtx up 100 times already because battlefield 3 maxes out my 580's 1.5gb of RAM. The same would be for thousands of other gamers running out of vram on a daily basis.

Well before you guys get this thread totally off topic and into a debate, we need to know what his specs are and if the card is failing. You know in order to help the guy, lol

I agree. Doesn't matter at this point about the memory. The framerate drop sounds a lot like he is running out of memory, as well as the texture corruption.

I cannot physically prove it other than to find my old geforce that was burnt up from doing this myself. The cause was bad memory modules as per the vendor when I sent it back.

His card may not be burnt up, but if he continues down the path of those settings, I imagine he will be RMA'ing his card too.

I've given the reason as to why his game is crashing. What's your's?

I think p.m's are sufficent at this point. If I am wrong, fine. I've seen this question asked and answered thousands of times over the 10 year lifespan of this game. I've seen and heard of many graphics cards burnt up from screwing around with graphics settings in ini's that they shouldn't be messing around with. The exact cause I don't know, but I know if you change the wrong settings in the wrong ini, you run the risk of burning up a perfectly fine video card.

Also, this graphics tweaker should be all he needs, or anyone needs to maximize any graphics settings with any graphics card.

I looked through and checked some things, I don't know how it didn't work the first time but -1 never saved or registered, I tried it again and the game works perfectly, so thank you to everyone who helped.
