Champion Crew Chief Out a Job

Just read that Darian Grubb the Championship winning crew chief is out a job.

What the heck happened there? I'm wondering if this is some kind of agreement with Rick Hendrick, and that Grubb was really just on loan to Stewart/Haas, and not really a full fledged employee.

While It's well known that Tony was not happy this season with their performance, they more than made up for it once they made the Chase. But I guess it wasn't enough to save Grubb.

From what I read on Jayski, and other sources, it sounded like Grubb leaving was a mid-season decision. At this point, while everything points to him being gone, I'd have to think he and Stewart would re-evaluate the situation. The only person I can, honestly, say that I would take over Grubb, if I was Tony, would be if Zippy could be persuaded away from Gibbs.

Sounds like Addington is the leading candidate, though, and I can't say I would be a fan of that move.

Grubb was told after the Charlotte race he would be out. That was after two bad finishes in the chase. They said they would re-evaluate it in the coming weeks. There was also a rumor of Grubb going back over to Hendrick with JJ but I just don't see that happening.

^They already squashed the Grubb to the 48, Knaus to competition director rumor. Knaus and Jimmie will be together again next year.
