I'm just going to say this - say what you want about Waltrip, but he was a solid race car driver and a damn good plate racer. You dont win two 500's, a 400 and Dega if you arent. And he didnt drive his own car in the Cup series for 25 years. He was there (and for a long time), for a reason.

I hate to say it, but the people that post (mostly around here) about how much Waltrip sucks and all that, are obviously in that 14-20 age range and havnt been watching racing for more than a few years, and frankly, dont really even know what they are talking about.

Just had to put that out there. Not a huge fan of ignorance.

That's what happens a lot these days. Someone has a TON of talent, but other people bash him just because of his attitude and don't realize how much talent they have.

I'm not saying Michael Waltrip is talentless, because in his hayday he was a solid driver for some barely-funded teams in the 1990's until 2000....HOWEVER having established that, I find him to be very irritating and I don't find him a very insightful person at all...to be quite frank he annoys me. Jeff Hammond was a solid contributor to NASCAR on Fox and he will be missed. I wonder how much of Michael being added was by a poke/prod by his brother Darrell. Either way, it will be interesting to see how this pans out.

He is the type of person that people either love or hate. Not a whole lot of middle ground.

I'd disagree though about him not being a very insightful person and I'd tend to lean in the opposite direction. During the truck broadcasts, he talks alot about some of the mechanical aspects of the cars(or trucks) and how they play into a particular situation, or how they effect what you are watching at that moment. And I happen to think thats a good thing. The more knowledge thats given to the masses, the better. Its free education and it can give people a better understanding so they dont jump on message boards like SRD and talk themselves way in over their head with stuff like "Waltrip only won the truck race because of the spoiler". (I kid. But you get the point)

The thing is, when hes not talking technical, hes getting all giddy and excited, which is part of his personality, and thats the part thats hated the most by the people that dont like him. For those people, the technical type stuff seems to get lost or missed because they are just annoyed by his personality.
