Lowe's Motor Speedway. The heart of NASCAR and all it's glory, if NASCAR could maintain it's glory. Nevertheless, the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series spans over a long, grueling 36 race season. Add the two non-points races, and you've got 38 races in one year. Add testing, practice, other series races, and these drivers are spending a lot of time in the seat of a race car.

So why does NASCAR have a schedule that doesn't seem right. The Chase for the Sprint Cup is starting to become accepted in the NASCAR world, and even though it's still undergoing some changes and will be awhile before it is completely accepted, why doesn't NASCAR make some good changes? Why doesn't NASCAR bring the last race of the chase to Charlotte, the home of NASCAR?

Rumors have stated that the last race of the year could be at Daytona. Possibly even the Daytona 500. This would be the biggest mistake NASCAR could make since...well...the Amp Energy 500 at Talladega. The biggest race of the year can't be the one that decides the champion. The whole reason why the Daytona 500 is so hyped, legendary, and great is because it's the first race of the year. Every driver in that race is starting a new season. Every driver in that race is going to give it their all to win. Nobody wants a top 10 in the 500...everyone wants to win. And by having the 500 as the first race of the season, those drivers can go for the win. If it was the last race of the year, the points leader wouldn't risk winning a championship battling for the lead with 2 laps to go, even if he had the best car.

Lowe's Motor Speedway is where Nascar should end. All 3 titles should be decided there. It is the home of Nascar. It's only fitting.

*All opinions of that of the writer - aka: me*

Kind of a rushed article, no proofreading or anything, so it might not be that great, but I made my point.

I agree that the Daytona 500 should stay put. However, I see one big problem with ending the season at Charlotte. As the schedule is now, a race in N.C. in November runs a serious risk of bad weather even snow.

As I remember, snow was the reason that the finale was moved from Atlanta to Miami because we had a little issue back in 2000. I think that was the year.

Yeah I would agree with Xanderk having the race here in Charlotte in Novemeber wouldn't be the best of places for the final race. But I see where Jswanson88 is going with this. Not just for the drivers to want to win the 500 I love all of the coverage, new paint schemes and such being ran down in Daytona. Jus about anywhere else in Feburary the weather probably be cloudy, cold, etc. and who would want to see the new paint schemes in anything else but the in sun? It is the place for the firat race of the season and NASCAR would be stupid if they changed it.:arghh:

Let's also not forget that it gets pretty gnarly butt cold in North Carolina just before Thanksgiving. Look at the last 4 races in the Chase: Texas, Atlanta, Phoenix, Homestead. What do they all have in common? Warm weather venues. That's not by accident!

as far as the season ending in charlotte i say no, why becuse it needs to end like it used in Atlanta. atlanta is the shorter track that acts like a superspeedway and is/was the perfect place to end a nascar season

I do miss seeing the champion going around Atlanta with the new trophy.

Yeah, Atlanta was a great place to end the season, but I think NASCAR has done the right thing by putting the race at a track that doesn't run the risk of freezing. The only other candidates for that late in the year would be California and Phoenix.

California doesn't draw the numbers it used to (but maybe it would if the championship was going to be decided there like in the Pixar movie Cars) and Phoenix just doesn't have the awe factor of the big fast tracks, so I don't think that it would be well suited for a finale race.

I say stick with Miami, not that my opinion (as a fan) matters to NASCAR.

Its a good idea, but the weather just wouldn't work. I think Homestead is good place to end the season. I think if Las Vegas ever gets a second date that would a good season finale. They have lights and its well Viva Las Vegas!?

Homestead today reminds me a lot of what Atlanta used to be before the quad-oval reconfiguration.

Remember, moving Atlanta back to where it is today was a win-win for both Atlanta and Homestead. Atlanta was moved back to a weekend where it wouldn't almost always be raining, and Homestead, a track located in an area devastated by Hurricane Andrew, would have the last Cup series race of the season. Bruton Smith got what he wanted, and Homestead was a big winner as well, which provided the incentive for them to reconfigure their track to the progressive banking that provides great racing today. Win-win all around.
