Okay so I've tried edits and changed AI strength and ratings and I just can't get the AI to run competitively with me. I'm either too fast or too slow. Would Adaptive AI help at all? What is the fastest and easisest way to get the AI competitive? Any other ways to make AI more like me that I don't know of? Also how hard is it to make a race.lp? Thank you.

I'm curious about this as well. I can find good balance on road courses, but not so much on ovals.

DON"T use Computer Opponents/Adaptive Speed Control.
You can try Computer Opponents/Strength/Auto.

The simplest way to get the ai to match your laptimes is to adjust the [ ai_track ] or [ ai_track_(series) ] ai_grip_modifier value.
Set the ai "Computer Opponents/Strength/Manual" to a value you want to use for every track. I'd suggest 95 - 100. [The ai ratings directly affect the ai Opponent Stength results. If you use a different carset (with different ai ratings), resulting ai laptimes will be different.]
Adjust the "ai_grip_modifier" value to produce ai laptimes commensurate with yours.

Okay I'll do some tweaking tomorrow and see how it goes. Thanks for that tip, I hope it helps. I've been sick of the AI for so long I was thinking of uninstalling so you might have kept NR2003 on my PC! Thanks Fortine!


EDIT: Extra question, why would I want to leave Adaptive AI off?

It's part of the game that speeds up/slows down the AI, depending on how fast you're going on the track. If you're going too slow compared to the AI, the game slows them down so you can catch up, and speeds them up likewise if you're pulling way ahead. It's unrealistic in terms of racing as once you caught up to the AI (or vise-versa if you're the one pulling ahead), the AI slip back into what was happening before whomever needed to catch up catches up.

In other words, it causes a rubber band like effect for the AI. You and the AI get stretched out from one another, then the game snaps you guys right back together, only to let the AI (or you, depending on the situation) pull ahead again.
