Not many things can make me go teary eyed, and not when I'm painting a car. But a part of my childhood was lost Tuesday. The car I always rooted for would be going away, and I'd be a liar if I said this isn't an emotional car for me to do. Here is a teaser, for now...

Here's part of the rear. Hopefully you get the gist of this. I'm trying to decide what to make the number, 55 for 55 wins since returning? Or maybe something like 2, or 9, for being the most dedicated/recognizable as being a Dodge?

I like 55 or 43 thanking Petty for all his support, since as of late?

I'd go with the 9, since they were the (re)start-up team and the team backed by Dodge the most. But obviously the 43 and Petty were associated with Dodge much longer than that.

55 could change to 56 any race, since BK is still running like he has been, so I wouldn't go with that one.

I'd go with either the old Everham #9 or #19, Ganassi #40 or the Penske #2 or #12

What about the 22? Ward Burton won the 2002 Daytona 500 in his Cat Dodge, and the number is still used by Penske today. All be it having three different drivers in the past couple years, and a new one this week.

I'm leaning towards the Evernham 9, Kasey Kahne's 2006 car is my favorite scheme. But the 2 seems to have stuck around the longest. I don't want to do the 43 because it's most famously known for being the old Petty blue Daytona, and this is for Dodge's current stint.

Why not use a Dodge logo instead of a number? (y)

That's the RAM logo now.

But this is a car to remember most of Dodge's recent history by, not necessarily now, so it would still work. I'm sure that when people remember how Dodge was upon it's Winston Cup return, they think of 2001-to-2008, not the dwindling performance of 2009 through now (post RAM split). Besides, plenty of people still recognize that as a Dodge logo since the majority of the ones on the road have that emblem.

Dodge also uses this logo along with the 2 stripes.

For cars like this, I use a logo for the roof number. But the Dodge logo is just two stripes, so that would be weird.

The two stripes could pass for a #11 with a little editing.
