I've always tried to keep my gear ratios close together, and do most of my grunt work in 2nd. I only use first coming off the turn before the esses and the coming off the last turn before the start/finish line.

Another thing I'm guilty of 9/10 of the time is over driving the track. Don't need to go blasting into the corners.

But what do I know? I suck at road courses! lol!

Something i did when i was learning road courses was putting the racing line on (short way is press 'r'). This shows you braking points and whatnot. Then test that a few times and soon you will be used to it, so you can take the line of. Hope this helps.

Don't hit the rumble strips too hard. They make your car bounce around.

Also hit your marks. Have a good apex in your turns too.

i think its b/c you are using the revamped reloaded version in arcade mode. the only way to get rid of that issue is to run simulation mode. simulation mode is much more fun! :)

also roll in &out of the throttle nice and easy, the lower gear ratios needed tend to make the car a little squirrely, be gentle with the foot.

I know if I try to jump on the brake the car the car 1. the back end gets waayyyy loose, and 2. the car doesn't want to stop and it plows through the corner into the gravel, wall, etc. The 2nd more in the high speed corners...my main corners I have problems with are 2, 4a, 7a, 10, and 11.

i try not to be perfect all the way around the track every lap. that would be tasking instead of worrying about out braking someone in the turns or overtaking coming out I try to minimize my mistakes and just drive close lap times. I know who ever keeps there car on the track and avoids taking them self out along with pit strategy is going to get a good finish. At Infineon coming into the last turn is what makes or breaks a good lap time for me.

The hairpin and the subsequent long turn to the start line are pretty much the only reliable passing points.

Actually I'm lazy, and automatic....I guess for the road course I oughto manual....

I have to run automatic as well in the game. I can't get used to having to push a button on the wheel for the clutch pedal. I drive a standard in real life, and it makes trying to make do with a button and a flimsy little knob extremely awkward.

I also have to have the best-line on fairly often, seeing as how I only run the game every couple months or so when the weather is nice. I'm a painter, not so much a racer.

My advice for Infineon, turn off damage ;) That way you can just plow through the AIs lol.

You know you can have automatic clutch and still shift manually, and I'm guessing you hate nice weather too since you only want to race indoors when it happens. lol

rofl Thats what i do at all road courses. Its like why try to out break them when u can easily gain spots by not breaking as much?

edit: another option is to edit the track.ini file, find the line that says: ai_decel_modifier = 0.85
change it to 0.00 then after the first slow turn u will have the lead lol is also fun to watch them pile up against the tire barrier

Let me rephrase that. When the weather is nice, I only race every couple months or so. When winter comes, I'd much rather stare at a computer screen than face the impending nightmare that is driveway shoveling.

Sad thing...I try to keep to the Cup schedule...I try to race on the Monday after the race, so I'll do the Toyota/Save Mart 350 on Monday....it's busy this time of year for me, because I not only run my races...I simulate my team for the Nationwide Series, Camping World Truck Series, ARCA Series, K&N Pro East and West, Canadian Tire, and IZOD IndyCar Series....you should see...I have a 5" binder full of records, just for the past few months....and a few of those binders for the last few seasons.

I also race in my Waste Management NASCAR Cup jacket, and racing helmet on the puter...weird hut :err:
