Easier way to outline logos?

Hey all, I'm getting to the point in my painting career where I can make text logos usually if I can't find them, but I can't outline a logo for crap.

Is there an easier way to outline a logo using Gimp besides the Path Tool?

hmmm....all i can think to do is duplicate the logo the resize it a tad to where you can see the outer edge of the logo. So now you have 2 layers- an outline of the logo on the bottom, and the top layer would be your logo.

You make the logos by text correct? If so,

Step 1 While the text tool is still selected, select the text you just created. Next, go into tool options and click "Create Path from Text"

Step 2 Now create a transparent layer under your text layer.

Step 3 Then go to Select > From Path (Shortcut: Shift+V):

Step 4 Next, go to Select > Grow and select the width of your outline. Choose a range from 2-5px. After you have grown the selection, fill it with the bucket tool (Shortcut: Shift+B). Then press Ctrl+Shift+A to Select None and there you have it: outlined text!

Next, go into tool options and click "Create Path from Text"

I don't see it in the tool options.

by the layer selector right click on the layer and go to alpha to selection then go to select and go to grow selection ill make this in gimp help later
