FOR GIMP ONLY

i notice that some people here when using logos from Google have an image like this

and say that they wanted to take the blue out but when they do it looks blue and partially jagged
here is a solution
use the color to alpha tool (located under the colors menu)
but what is it???
The Color to Alpha command makes all pixels of the active layer that have a selected color transparent. An Alpha channel is created.
how do i use it???
open it up then use the color select box

and select the exact color that you want

end result

before

after

side note
the whole image is essentially partially transparent
solution- duplicate the layer until it isnt

pics from gimp.org

Usually, I just add an alpha channel under transparency on one of the menus (can't remember which at this moment in time) and I set the tolerance up high on the magic wand tool to select everything that color, usually takes the jagged edge right off as well. Sometimes it doesn't, at which point I now know what technique to use. Thanks dude, that's a big help.

I just use the selection tool, press cut and then go to select tab and press select none to re move backgrounds. I'm currently waiting for Cs2 Photoshop to finish downloading!

If I really need a logo bad and all I could find has a busy background I sit there and trace around with the pen tool as long as it takes. Then create a selection, inverse, then delete.

That's how I would do it if I knew there weren't going to be any interruptions, but it seems like the phone always rings, there's a knock on the door, a thunderstorm hits, always something so I have to take the quick route lol. At least my neighbors are quiet.............
