You do realize that they have that bar so they don't have to show a commercial literally every 3 minutes like ESPN

I would take a constant stream of sponsorship taking up the bottom 5th of my screen if it meant they showed the whole race... hell even chuck a few ad breaks into NASCAR's answer to the TV timeout (caution for phantom debris). I'm sick of watching three hour races with intermitent 2 minute breaks every five minutes, I find it almost unwatchable after 2 hours.

Rather then just a nascar channel. Why not a Car Racing channel, you know what speed used to be. Forget all the other crap except pinks and show racing and only racing. I miss the great converage of the WRC or the BTCC. A DVR is great thing, however it sucks that every racing program says auto racing except nascar or formula one.

I'm not exactly sure what you're trying to compare here. The TNT video was the actual race while the ESPN vid was after everything was all said and done and they were showing replays. I don't see much difference at all between coverage, minus the giant graphic at the bottom of the TNT broadcast. Hell, I'm just happy to see the race, period. I don't sit down to watch the races and pick out everything someone did wrong. I just watch the race for the race. And believe it or not, broadcasting these races live costs a lot of money, so you're going to get a lot of commercials to go along with it and honestly, we're lucky that we even get to see every truck, Nationwide and Cup race every year. That can be thanked in due part to NASCAR's popularity sky-rocketing over the past 10-15 years. The more you see, the more it costs.

Yeah, so Vince Welch says a couple of comical things and Rusty said "squirting". Just watch or don't watch. If it's that excruciating to watch their coverage, then don't. I'll be honest, I'm not a fan of either Vince Welch or Marty Reid (especially Marty), but it doesn't hinder my viewing experience near enough to come onto the boards and bash it instead of discussing the race. Has NASCAR become that boring that we're talking about the coverage instead of the race?

This is a great example of fans NEVER being happy with ANYTHING.

Then do what for NASCAR coverage? The problem on the fan side is the problem with the booth. Better announcers=more enjoyable race. I would honestly rather sit my cat behind the mic for 3 1/2 hours than hear Marty Reid talk about anything. "The Daly Planet" blog has fan comments on both their posts and twitter account, and most of the comments are about how fans are displeased with the race coverage. Basically, if ESPN steps up its game and acts like it actually wants the NASCAR contract, there will be less griping.

I don't know, I just feel like ESPN's already at a disadvantage with race fans because of how the rest of the network treats the sport, barely at all. Sportscenter, PTI, Around the Horn, Jim Rome, etc. None of these shows ever talk about NASCAR and when they do, they usually say something stupid that makes no sense because they don't know what they're talking about (it's not stick and ball). And yeah, Marty Reid is pretty bad, but again, I'll still watch because I want to see the race.

I'll still watch too. Just know that you're all invited to my Marty Reid farewell party the day he pulls his head out of Kyle Busch's rear and leaves ESPN.

The Talladega one was better. Too bad Dorna Sports became no-fun and suspended FONESupports for having MotoGP footage in his "Racing in Slow Motion" videos, thus removing that video.

I have a hard time complaining about today's Nascar TV coverage because I see equal to worse coverage of every other sport in terms of how horrific the coverage actually is.

There's no journalism anymore. There's no telling the story of the game/race anymore. Instead of learning about the sport, and the players involved, the focus is on any sort of scandal attached to anything, or some statistic about what someone did on the fourth Thursday following an odd-numbered Saturday in first 3 months of a year divisible by 8 but not by 12, whose digits add up to a number greater than 4 but less than 7. In other words, the actually interesting information is cast off as unworthy of mention in favor of the most inane dribble that has absolutely no significance at all whatsoever.

All anyone needs to do is watch any broadcast from the mid 90s and compare it to today. Nascar, IMO, has the most striking contrast in terms of how good it was then to how crappy it is now, but you'll find it in other sports. They don't make 'em, or call 'em, like they used to.

My main gripe with ESPN is the camera work. Remember when Busch and Sadler crashed hard at Pocono? They didn't even get a decent shot of it! Every week, something happens, and the only shot they have is one where you can only see the incident in the corner of the screen, or it's waaay back, or you just catch the last second of it. Fox and TNT make it seem like there's at least 3 cameras on EACH and EVERY car throughout the race. I know there's not that many, but they make it seem that way with excellent technique. That, and Rusty is really getting on my nerves. I love the guy, but he can't commentate for crap. Even DW has him beat by miles. Now, DJ... I really wish he'd get on with Fox somehow. He's personable, knowledgeable, and doesn't brag and make himself look great like Rusty or DW. With a little more experience, he could be as good as his Dad.

It aches a little bit to know that only a select few will know what the hardest crash in NASCAR history looked like from a decent angle.
