As far as the format itself, 8-lap heats dont seem like much time for anything significant to happen other than torn up equipment. And a "last-chance" heat just compounds it. I'll be damn surprised if much else happens besides that.

Aside from all of that, I'd be curious to know how much input Chad Little has had in this whole deal (even though its been in the works before he was promoted). Its kind of interesting to see someone do a mediocre job in a lower series, and then get promoted. Having him around makes me nervous for the truck series as a whole.

Nonetheless, I certainly plan on watching 'The Prelude v2.0', even though I'd be much more excited if tomorrow they announced they were canceling it. And I dont think theres anything that could change my mind on it.

Yeah but if you've ever been to a dirt race, it's part of the tradition for 8-lap heat races, 12-lap Consi, and a Feature that goes for 25-40 laps.

Then again that's my personal opinion since I've been wrenching sprint cars.

I do wonder how far apart the heat races are though from each other, as in if there's damage the teams will have time to repair their trucks in between the races. 8 laps is a dash though, why am I already seeing the whole idea of a trophy dash in my head and actually liking the format. The onyl bit I don't like..is the mental image of a truck with a sprint car wing on it.

At the dirt track, I've seen cars flip several times only to go back to the pits, get fixed, and make the Consi and the Feature event. This is all done during when a driver's heat is already over and there's an intermission after the Consi to get all of this done.

As for the "mental image" of a truck with a sprint car wing on it, some sprint car teams use a pickup truck and an open trailer to tow the race car to and from the track. We actually have mounting brackets to mount the wing to the truck bed for a spare.

Now we *could* mount the top wing to the truck bed so true to form, it's a tribute to the lower-budget teams.

I've been to loads of dirt races over the years, and I think that format (or other similar ones) work good for them. But they're dirt drivers, dirt teams, running dirt cars, and have been doing so for a while. Its just another day at the office.

And that was basically my point, as far as the truck race using the format. Theres a lot of unknowns and unfamiliarity with these (truck) stock car teams and drivers, running a stock car on dirt (obviously there will be some drivers with good dirt experience). Its not something you learn and get real comfortable with after just a couple/few practice sessions. And thats why I dont see a whole lot happening during an eight-lap heat race (other than stuff getting torn up).

It's been said before, and now I'm going to say it again. I think NASCAR knows what they're doing. They're not complete idiots. At least, not all the time. Fans have been wanting a dirt race for awhile and they're finally getting one. I think that's a nice move by NASCAR.

A race where stuff gets torn up. Huh, imagine that.

So you'd be more excited for a cancelled race than a race that was run? :001_huh:

Well, that might be your opinion but I'm pretty sure you're in a very small minority there. Never heard one person at a race ever say something like, "Man I wish they wouldn't race. That'd be so much more exciting."

I'm talking about excessively. And with a series and teams that dont have as much money to work with.

:confused1:

I'm not going to the race. And I would never go to one and then wish it got canceled as I'm sitting in the grandstands.

I said I would be more excited if they announced tomorrow that it was canceled. And I stand by that. I wasnt into the idea before, I'm not into the idea right now, and I dont think theres anything that will get me into it later on.

As far as being in the minority? Quite possibly so. Certainly on these boards. But I will say that you'd probably be surprised to know that theres plenty of people that share the same feelings as me. Browse other boards/forums, comment threads, twitter, and listen to SiriusXM NASCAR for eight hours a day every day - I can tell you they're out there. Plenty of them. But either way, if I am in the minority, I have no problem with that at all. Does that automatically make my feelings/opinions invalid?

Just wait...Next year the trucks won't even look like trucks...They will have noses just like nationwide cars and the whole trucks will change (n)

I'm sure Nascar will make them look more like trucks not less.

No. You're far from the only one who doesn't think much of the dirt race and doesn't think it's a great idea.

That said, it sounded like you'd be more excited about cars not racing than cars racing, which struck me as bizarre. I think you mean you'd be more excited if there was an announcement made they'd be racing somewhere else other than on dirt, but that's not how I read it.

They could race in the walmart parking lot and I would be in to it. As long as their turning laps, I am in.
