For those of you who are turned off due to the lengthy time it requires for the ability to race upper class cars, iRacing is adding the ability to be upgraded at the moment you acquire a 4.0 Safety Rating. Now, you will no longer have to wait 12 weeks to acquire a license, as long as you prove that you can maintain a 4.0 SR, which would previously allow you to race up to another level. This will begin next season, just under a month away.

*Note that things may change prior to next season based on reactions and ideas from current members. Nothing is written in stone as of yet. We still have a while until next season starts.

Other features include ejection from the Pro Series, if you fall below a 1.0SR. This probably won't effect many, but it is another feature for next season. Below is the full announcement.

"iRacers with High Safety Ratings Get In-Season Upgrades

No one likes to wait, and beginning next month with the start of 2009 Season 4 iRacers who achieve a safety rating of 4.0 and fulfill minimum participation requirements will no longer have to wait for the end of a 12-week season to be promoted to the next higher license level – they’ll be automatically promoted immediately and eligible for all the benefits of their new license.

“It seems fair that drivers who demonstrate a really superior ability to race safely should be able to advance their licenses at a faster rate,” said Dave Kaemmer, iRacing’s CEO. “We’ll maintain our standard end-of-season promotion schedule for racers who have at least a 3.0 safety rating, but less than 4.0. This new FastTrack option provides additional incentive for clean driving.”

Kaemmer noted that new automated program also provides for a swifter penalty for drivers who exhibited really bad driving habits, including in iRacing’s Pro series.

“The incentives for good driving are both positive and negative,” Kaemmer noted. “Drivers whose safety ratings drop below 1.0 at any point during a season, including participants in the Pro Series, will be demoted immediately to the next lower license level. This is a pretty serious penalty for a Pro license holder; there won’t be any FastTrack promotions to Pro status, so they’ll also have to wait until the next year before they can be eligible again.”

Holders of C and B licenses are eligible for mid-season promotion and demotion under the FastTrack program. D license holders may be promoted but are not subject to demotion, while A and Pro license holders are subject only to the demotion part of the program. Rookie promotions are unaffected by the FastTrack program; those promotions will continue to take place every four weeks.

Complete details of the FastTrack license promotion program will be added to the Sporting Code prior to the program’s implementation at the start of 2009 Season 4."

does this only apply to rookie promotions or is it for all licences?

Don't quote me, but I'm pretty sure Rookies will still have to work through there 4 week season. After that the FastTrack system should allow D - B class drivers to be able to be promoted once they acquire the 4.0SR.

This is cool. Quick question, on average, how many races does it take to raise your SR if you only have a few minor incidents? I don' t know how quickly you can increase it, and it will vary for each driver I'm sure, but I'd like to get a new estimate based on an average driver from someone experienced with iRacing. I need to know so I can start saving up money if im going to be racing a new series much faster now..lol.

Well, it depends on a multitude of factors, including previous races. Generally speaking, the higher your safety rating is, the harder it is going to be to raise. First off, safety rating is only a simplified form of calculating how many corners you make per incident, a slightly modified, but similar system to the LPI system that was used in NR2003. The safety rating is based off of the last few hundred corners you ran, increasing by license level for the amount of corners remembered.

At Rookie, moving up towards a 3.o SR is going to be easier than moving up to a 3.0 SR at a D license, because each license level has about a one point difference for each license level, so the amount of increase to expect is going to depend on the license level you have. The lower your SR is the easier it will be to increase your CPI, and your SR. At Rookie you can expect about a .20 SR increase per incident free race when your SR is around 3.0. As you approach the 4.99 limit of Rookie, you will approximately receive a .13 - .15 SR increase. If you are D at 3.0 you can expect similar increases as at around a 4.00 Rookie level, but the larger amount of corners remembered means increases will vary.

Here is a CPI chart that helps show some of what I mean about why results are going to vary depending on license level.
