I hope that we see a better Bristol race than we did last August. That was not Bristol. I like the one groove short track, not the three groove, less wrecking, green flag pit stops short track. I want good old fashioned short track racing beating banging and tempers!
Look for Kurt and Kyle Busch, Tony Stewart, Carl Edwards, and Jeff Gordon to be up front. Kasey Kahne is the dark horse.

I think Jr. should be fun to watch this weekend.

One of his strongest tracks, and finally a trusty steed.......

I love this track, but i dont know i think the progressive banking makes it look flatter in the turns, the look of the old bristol was more intimidating. Montoya is sort of quiet he has a 31, 20, 19 and 16 so far. I hope he steps up, he qualified second last bristol race he finished 15 or something like that. Surely the Roush guys will go well, along with Gibbs.

Matt Kenseth, Kyle Busch, Jeff Gordon & Dale Earnhardt Jr will be my picks of ones to watch.

I never got to hear what you guys thought of the progressive banking, what do you think about the "new" bristol?

It's a lot better, you now have room to pass someone without rooting them out of the way with your bumper.

No more follow the leader around the bottom.

I'm not a big fan of the "new" Bristol. Last August was a travesty compared to what a classic Bristol race is like. I much more prefer an old school Bristol stomp. We see enough of two and three wide racing at the cookie cutter tracks, give me bumpin', rubbin', and tempers at Bristol.

Honestly I think Bristol is getting way over analyzed here. Having a caution every 5 laps and half the field ending up getting wrecked does NOT make for a good race.

If YOU were one of the guys in the shop that had to fix the car that got booted in the back for no good reason, I think your opinion of whatever's been lost at Bristol would change real quick.

Bristol is desperately trying to blend the multi-groove type short track racing at Irwindale/ORP with the crash & bang type short track racing at Martinsville to hopefully stumble on the perfect short track race for everyone. They've had ONE race on the new track with the new car. I think it's premature to solidify any judgements now, after this upcoming race, or even after this race and the August race. After the August race we'll know more but I would at least give it until then before worrying about any 'ruining' of Bristol.

Interesting tidbit off of Jayski...

Did you know that it has been 32 years since Chevrolet has been shut out of the first four races of the season and a Chevy driver went on to win the title in the same year? In 1976, Cale Yarborough won his first of three straight Championships. But the Chevy camp was held winless through the first four races of the season. Once the ball started rolling for Cale, he would win race #5 at Bristol and eight more races that season. This year, Dodge, Ford and Toyota have all posted wins, keeping the powerful Chevy contingency out of victory lane. This is only the sixth time in the modern era (since 1972) that Chevy has been winless after four races. This other years this occurred were:
2002 – Tony Stewart won the title in a Pontiac
1992 – Alan Kulwicki won the title in a Ford
1976 – Cale Yarborough won the title in a Chevy
1973 – Benny Parsons won the title in a Chevy
1972 – Richard Petty won the title in a Plymouth & Dodge.
The last time Chevrolet went winless for an entire season was in 1970.

Cup Qualifying Rained out. Johnson and Gordon on the front row. The 21, 10, and 34 go home.

Now this is a little creepy...and kind of funny...

off Jayski:

Stewart getting waxed on Monday - “Operation Wax Smoke”: After almost a year, Tony Stewart will finally be getting his back waxed on Monday night [March 17th] at an undisclosed top secret location. Kevin Harvick will fill-in for Stewart through out much of the show [8:00pm/et Sirius Satelitte NASCAR Radio Channel 128]. At some point during the show Kyle Petty will receive a check for $100k for the Victory Junction Gang Camp. Some of the folks scheduled to appear or call-in: Kevin and Delana Harvick, Ford Martin, Kyle Petty and Darrell Waltrip, plus you never know who may call in to check on Stewart's condition. Also Jimmie Johnson told Ford Martin, TSL's National Motorsports Correspondent, that if Ford pulled a piece of wax off Stewart's back, Jimmie would donate an extra 10k to Stewart's foundation.(3-14-2008)

I really wish they found someone to replace DW for this race, but kudos to him for trying to stick it out.
