Games That Are Modable Like NR2003

Are there any games like NR2003 that have a large community that have tons of created tracks and cars and a large community creating them? Is there any that allows you to edit driver ratings like NR2003? The only one I can find is RFactor but they don't let you edit driver ratings. Thanks :)

GTR2 is one of the finest games I've ever played. GT cars, prototypes, touring cars, everything! You should try that one. There are thousands of mods and tracks available all over the web.

Assetto Corsa's modding scene is pretty large, but I doubt there's any oval racing, and I'm not sure how AI is done there. Your best bet for oval is the original NASCAR Heat, but you can't really do much with driver ratings. Basically you're not going to find many other games with such an extensive AI system.

I'll check both out thanks. Can you edit AI ratings in GTR2 like NR2003?

There are a few things you can do in the original Nascar Heat such as editing the rank of each driver in the DRIVERS file which is found in Mod folders. Sometimes when I want a real challenge I set all the ranks to 1, makes for an interesting race at short tracks.

Sweet I'll check it out when my computer is fixed. What do you mean that it is more complicated?
The AI driver rating values are in .rcd files for each AI driver. Those values are finicky to mess with. If there was a NRatings-style program for it, it would be easier to edit.

rFactor used to have a ton. Not sure if it still does. GTR2 though has a ton. Hate they went to the P2P bit.

If not talking about racing games, but if include driving sims there too then with no doubt that ETS2 and ATS are modding kings in driving/racing sim industry! They have tons of mods already i guess even more than all other driving/racing games have combining. Various maps to drive on, tons of trucks and other cars, different weather mods, tons of tuning, traffic, trailer mods and so on....

Should check out AMS aka Automobilista, Reiza Studios headed up by Renato Simioni. Great modding community. It's a small development team, that years ago came from modding the original Rfactor game. These guys maybe a small team, but they are putting up top quality content for car and track models. It's surprising the amount of work they get done for a small team. Plus they are very active in the community. I had shown Renato our rendering system when in development, and he was in awe of what we had put together . We have that in common, to were our grassroots is from modding older platforms, plus that TMS is also a small team of guys, but we do it as a hobby. Total opposite of those guys. They finally created a studio years. back. :)

I still have to put NR2003 the leader because of the amount of carsets/paint schemes they have for the different mods.

As far as carsets go those other games can't touch NR2003. At least from my searches through Google.

Could you ever edit some file to get the ai to race better in nascar sim racing? I found the game boring from lack of AI excitement

The first rFactor has a ton of tracks and mods. My only problem is the AI act weird during cautions and the physics on ovals are off, I can't find a way to make the contact between two cars more dangerous, it's like they are on rails sometimes. You also can't edit a lot of things like in NR2003. For example making the cars have bigger gaps among each other when the safety car is out would be a huge improvement.

There is a lot of great created content with the original RFactor. The problem I have with it is you can't change AI ratings for the other cars racing.

I like that the present RFactor allows you to set a strength rating for the other AI cars but I wish they had a minimum-maximum system like NR2003 so there was more unpredictability on what cars would do good and bad.

Really? ASR is a glorified mod and I could change the individual driver ratings with notepad. Are there not driver rating files for the main Rfactor game?

There are driver ratings. Those are .rcd files. I'm pretty sure rF2 has a similar system. Driver ratings can be set up how you like it, problem is I don't think there's an easy way to edit those ratings like one can with Nratings on NR2003. Also the rFactor AI in general are tough to figure out sometimes, there's not that much documentation on them, how to change their behavior etc. Whereas in NR2003 there's a lot of info available and people are finding out new stuff even now.

What is ASR? I've never played Rfactor but I've looked around the Internet and I was told that you couldn't edit driver ratings in the first Rfactor game.

I looked around the Internet and I was told that Rfactor didn't have driver ratings and that Rfactor 2 has driver ratings but you can only assign a 1-100 number. Is there a different system than this? If so I have no idea what the other forum I talked to was talking about. Can you set a minimum and maximum rating like NR2003 or something like that so there is more mystery to how well the AI will do during the race?

Go to rFactor directory --> game data --> talent --> (series folder) there should be a bunch of .rcd files that can be edited with a notepad. Some mods might not have the talent files, then you would have to make them yourself, but most of the mods I use have talent files. Now the following is how that .rcd file looks for every driver:

// rFactor Talent File - Generated by rFactor Talent Editor

Helio Castro Neves
{
// Driver Info
Nationality=Brazilian
DateofBirth=05-10-1976
Starts=19
Poles=0
Wins=0
DriversChampionships=0

// Driver stats
Aggression=84
Reputation=99
Courtesy=76
Composure=91
Speed=92
Crash=5
Recovery=5
CompletedLaps=95
MinRacingSkill=88
}

I'm pretty sure the driver info is completely useless. It's just stats for the player to see. Driver stats however are more important. I do remember that CompletedLaps is an important stat. The other ones I'm not so sure about. The last time I tried doing some serious rFactor offline racing was about 3 years ago, I do however remember information was scarce on the topic BUT there's definitely some out there.
