GT5 did a good job on the track for not scanning it, very accurate, but it looks so sterile...no bumps whatsoever, car looks easy to drive as well...Good thing i dont have to choose between them.:GEEK:

If I want a genuine simulation experience, I'll go iRacing. If I feel like fooling around with racing game, controlling a car with my thumbs, as opposed to the wheel...I'll go GT5. But since I'd rather have realism...iRacing wins, hands down.
The graphics look awesome on GT5...but the also do in iRacing (albeit this guy does not have his graphics settings turned up all of the way).
The only time the car moves at all is over the curbs, the rest appears to be a weird camera effect...Maybe it's Gt5's camera style and you cant tell without the ffb (hopefully that vibration can be turned off too, but we won't know until we get our hands on it...
don't get me wrong i use to love gran turismo, i mean i remember staying home from school just to play it all day but i have to agree with moppenheimer. it still looks too fakey. it didn't seem like there was any transition from oval to road course but thats just me.
That GT5 footage is from the GT Academy/Time Trial Challenge from back in December. It didn't have hardly any effects turned on and a ton of stuff was dumbed down with low quality textures (it was only like a 300mb download). So you can't really judge anything from it.
The winner of the competition though is now racing for the RJN Motorsport team in the European GT4 cup.
I don't think the GT series has ever been all that realistic even back when it was running against Nascar 2 and 3 back in the day. But I do admit it was still fun. It's a game that Hundreds of millions of people from all walks of life will play. There has to be a fine line they have to run to allow as many people as possible to come away with a fun experience. We can't expect the creators of this game to cater to only those that love hardcore realism in a game. Especially since this is a console title.
I may like realisms in a game. but as long as I'm enjoying what I'm playing I don't think that if a game doesn't feel 100% like the real thing that it diminishes the value of it.
I like the graphixs of GT5 better, but Iracing is alot more realistic...And i really love how you can see the drivers hands on the wheel in gt5, in nr2003/Iracing I feel like im driving a romote control car haha.
Exactly what fisher said. This is from the gt academy and it was a dumbed down. Basically Prologue but a time trail. Also this was a 250mb download so I can't wait till the real thing is out!
I think this is an obvious deal, GT5 without a doubt has the graphical edge, but that is about where it stops. GT5 is a racing game, iRacing is a racing sim. Not to mention the guy trying to compare graphics isn't even running iRacing to it's fullest. Cool video none the less.
yeah my graphics aren't on max but they're up there anyway...I finally got my hands on GT5 for a try, was anticipating it greatly but the more and more I hear about it the less and less I think it's going to be worth it to go out and get a PS3 for that game alone.
It's exactly like ISR describes, it, a "track day sim"...physics aren't ground breaking, they're about 3/4 of what iRacing's are, the Sprint Cup NASCARs are about up to 50% at best of what iRacing and other sims have to offer, they are very, very dumbed down and made easy to drive, which I guess you could expect because a 3500lbs 800hp brick on wheels is going to be hard as hell to drive, the average person wouldn't be able to get one from pit lane onto the track let alone up to speed.
A few overall notes, even in pro mode the cars are extremely stable and it's hard to upset them short of throwing a turn or doing something stupid like WOT as you approach an apex, it's also hard to get rear wheel spin on any car, short of going WOT while turning...For a 370z going around INDY road that fast, it would have to be at least 500hp, but that car is as stable as a 300hp car, you can see the iRacing car is under 3000lbs and 600hp, similar in speed, but it has tons of throttle oversteer and little grip for a $500k race car, compared to a "souped up" 370z.
As well another thing is the brakes on every car in GT5 are simply way too powerful. You can hit braking points significantly later than you should be able to, and the car is 100% stable through heavy braking, doesn't sway or wobble a milimeter.
I think it's going to be an extremely fun game with all those cars, to do some league races and maybe casual races if you get your ranking high enough to avoid the wreckers, but it really doesn't hold a candle to iRacing when it comes to physics or feel.
