This year it will be the DeltaWing in Garage #56 & next year it will be this.

The hydrogen-electric GreenGT H2 prototype will take the place on the grid reserved for an experimental vehicle at the Le Mans 24 Hours next year.

The Franco-Swiss racer follows on from the Nissan-powered DeltaWing, which fills the so-called 'Garage 56' spot in the 24 Hours later this month.

Le Mans organiser, the Automobile Club de l'Quest confirmed that the GreenGT would race in 2013 at the official launch of the car at Le Mans ahead of Sunday's test day on the Circuit de la Sarthe.

The GreenGT is powered by a hydrogen fuel cell which produces the electricity to drive two electric motors pushing out the equivalent of 540bhp. The bespoke chassis has been developed the Welter Racing team, which was a regular at Le Mans through the 1990s and into the 2000s.

The car will begin testing in July and is scheduled to run in public for the first time over the course of the Silverstone FIA World Endurance Championship event in August. Former Audi factory driver Christian Pescatori will undertake the initial testing in the GreenGT.

New ACO president Pierre Fillon revealed that the GreenGT was the only applicant to fill 'Garage 56' for next year. He said that he hoped that the publicity surrounding the DeltaWing and now the GreenGT would encourage more interest for 2014.

As for the looks of the car I'm just.... Well... I'm at a loss for words :-O XD

This is the result of having a 3 way between a Corvette, a F1 car, and the Batmobile... and then sticking an old COT wing on it XD

looks like something you'd buy for a slot car track... i understand what they are trying to do, but how can those mirrors work with that wing there

Looks like a hammerhead shark to me. It doesn't look good, but it looks better than the Delta Wing thing.

I'm all for new stuff and I think it looks pretty cool aside from the hammerhead overhang on the front that sandman mentioned. The only thing I'd worry about is the driver getting sucked up into that giant intake.

Looks goofy, but overall I'm excited to see that teams and manufacturers can still experiment to some degree with how a race car should look and not be boxed into a bunch of regulations. Maybe we'll see a hot looking car come out of this deal yet!
