Can I get some suggestions on a processor that will run NR03 without hiccups. I do not have much to work with so I may be outta-luck on this one. I have an ASUSM4A785 TD MB , which has AM3 socket and 16G total memory slots. kinda old i know but that is all i have to work with. Hoping to stay in the 100-200 dollar range.

Agreed thats your best option since the X6 is no longer produced. AMD has moved to the AM3+ socket and 8 and 12 core processors respectively.

I have the 1090t X6 and its a smooth CPU.

Ok I was looking at the 965 and the 1045T which is a six core, which are both close in price. Would the extra cores be worth 20 more dollars at this application?

WOW that is one HOSS of a rig your link took me to. I wish i could build something like that. I am kind of too limited though. Starting to think on the 965 and adding more ram to a total of 8g. What as far as an OS is a good pick. I have a whole 200 to spend and after the cpu and ram plus rebate i should have around 60 to put into a good 64bit OS. I have heard that NR2003 does not utilize multiple cores, is this true?

I have an AMD Phenom II 955 quad core at 3.2 mhz, 8 g of ram, and a PNY nVidia 550 ti gpu. I am running Windows 7 home premium 64 bit. This rig handles N2K3 quite well. It is true that N2K3 does not recognize multi core processors, but CPU speed is important.

I have had no problem running N2K3 on Windows 7. I disabled DEP, and have had no problem loading and running it. I feel that the problems that some people have are due to buying a computer pre loaded with all kinds of software, some of which may interfere with N2K3. Anti virus programs are a common problem. I see that i will be about where you are with those specs with the exception of gpu my 6770 is a bit slower than the 550. the issue at hand is getting to a 64bit OS so i can use the extra memory i have installed. from what i hear or have read you cannot upgrade from 32 to 64, you have to do a complete removal/replacement by saving files to a separate device. any thoughts??

Windows 7 home premium is a 64 bit OS. What are you running now? If you change your OS, you will have to reinstall all your files. You could get an external HD, and move your files there. Then you could move them over to the new computer. This is only for data, however. Any actual programs, like N2K3 would have to be reinstalled from disk. You could then move the data files to the new installation.

What I did, was to install my old hard drive into the new computer as a slave drive. I still had to reinstall my games and programs, but migrating the data to the new "C" drive was pretty simple.

Greetings,

I am about to buy a new laptop for college. I found a seemingly great deal at Staples, wherein I can purchase a Lenovo 15.6" laptop for $550, with a $100 student rebate in return and Microsoft 8 free upon release. The only things I seem to be finding that are not positive about this computer include its low native screen resolution and its inability to handle high-end games adequately. I was wondering how well you all thought NR2003 would function on this computer. Here are the specs:

15.6" screen
3rd gen Intel core i5, 2.5 GHz, 3 MB l3 cache
Intel TurboBoost 2.0
8 GB DDR3 memory
750 GB 5400 RPM SATA hard drive
HD LED display (1366 x 768)
Windows 7 Home Premium

All things considered, with NR2003 being an older game, I assume it would run well. What do you guys think? Here is a link to a review (not spam): Lenovo Ideapad Z580-2151-28U 15.6" Laptop | Staples®

To run the game on a laptop with the new miss and tracks available, you will need something with a 512 dedicated video card minmum

Did you mean new mods and tracks?

At my high school, I was given a Gateway laptop in 2008 (could not remember the specific model) and NR2003 ran fine on it. I raced in online races and everything. I have no recollection as to what graphics card it may have had. I am just concerned that the game will run to where it is usable, not necessarily at the best possible settings. After all, the game runs on my dad's 1999 PC (albeit like a dinosaur).

The Lenovo I posted about does not have a discrete graphics card, that I know for sure.

Yesterday i got my new cpu installed and it did help. faster frames and smoother video, now to install the added memory and 64bt system. the 965BE came with a nice fan also with the sink already applied. Now to a gpu upgrade, anyone have a 6850 or 560 plus for sale?

You should be able to run N2K3, but obviously not at full graphics settings. Some of the newer tracks and mods might be a problem. I ran it for years on a P-5 2.52 with 1 gb memory, but it has a dedicated gpu.
