Well I'm planning on doing some enduro racing someday. I'm not tired of living (yet), so a Hans device would be nice.

The problem is these Hans devices are ridiculously expensive. I think the men who sell them are just greedy and selling them for so much $ because they can. I mean, a Hans device is no more than a horseshoe with a string attached.

I was thinkin of making my own. Metal would be nice, but metal might be heavy and I don't know how to make metal (do you?).

So I guess my only choice would be to use wood. I don't know how to make wood either...but I have a good idea how to cut it. :spinny:

It might not be the same as a real Hans device, but wouldn't a homemade one be better than nothing?

There are several affordable options out there from the Hutchens to the DCell and others. You could even go and buy a $25 Simpson neck donut and for enduro racing that would generally be fine.

Drill some holes in a helmet screw some screws into it and a horseshoe? I don't really know too much about that stuff.

Homemade one wouldn't be legal, not even for something as cheap as the 24hrs of Lemons...

HANS devices aren't really that expensive ($600 - $800 for the sport models), which is cheap. Racing on any level including enduro isn't a budget sport, if you're not ready to spend then don't even get involved.

The Hybrid Pro Rage device by Safety Solutions/R3 is actually a lot safer then any HANS (HANS only protect from certain angle impacts, whereas the Hybrid ones protect from just about all). They go for about $600-650

Safety Solutions - Racing Seatbelts| Safety Restraint | Auto Harness - Hybrid Pro Rage

BTW what enduro series/what part of the country/dirt or asphalt?

A HANS is much much more then what you think it is. Never, ever skimp on safety no matter what you are going to be racing. Having an attitude like that will cost you much more then the cost for a HANS up front. I'm not the biggest fan of donuts, so I would look for something like an R3 or a D-Cel if you do not get a HANS. Trust me, ignorance to safety will only cost you.
