So what type of Bristol do you like best?

New- Intergrated banking, More side by side but with less crashes and drama

Old- 36 degrees all the way across, lots of wrecks rubbin and bumpin but with less side by side.

Personally I like the old. Going back to that 2002 race in the fall. It was one of the craziest races I've seen. Tons of drivers getting mad and the race ends with a Jeff Gordon bump and run on Rusty Wallace. At the time I hated Gordon but now looking back it was a great race. I've been to 3 Bristol races 1 on the old and 2 on the new. The one on the old was by far the best but the other ones were great too. This race ended the sell out streak and I dont think that they will be starting another one anytime soon. Bristol aint what it was and I just cant get used to it. But thats just what I think. What do you guys say?

Old: Not as much obvious domination, one driver may have dominated but they were challenged along the way.

New: 2008: Kyle Busch leads 415 laps, Carl Edwards leads 84. Two drivers led 499 of the race's laps. Jeff Gordon led the other.

The old Bristol was a one lane race. To pass someone you had to hit the person. Not a cool way to race for 500 laps.

The new version allows passing and closer battles. I'll take the new version that lets them pass rather than a one lane wreckfest.

Old. The racing set it apart from other tracks and made it popular.

I like the 1962 - 1992 (ie the OLD) one the best, with the current one coming up second and the middle one the worst.

Here is a fun fact about the "middle" Bristol... It wasn't actually banked at 36° , it was banked at 26° , the 36° was just an advertising tactic.

Just like currently the track is advertised as 26-30° when in fact it's 22-27°.

And it's first handful of years the track was actually only banked at 22°, and it was also a perfect half-mile. They redid it in the 70s to the 36° and a little more then a half-mile (I believe if what was said during the coverage today was correct, it was advertised as a 5/8th mile for awhile). Then in 1992 it was concreted at 26° called a half-mile and still advertised as 36°.

Changed Old to less side by side instead of passing. I believe that there was more passing on the old track than the new. No matter how FOX tries to spin it I dont like the new as much.

i will get back to you in the fall. With out the wing i think you are going to see some new people come to the front, you wont have those wing plates at the end to save their a** this time. The wing has made people who cant drive a free'd up race car better then they are. The wing saves you as you spin out to a certain point. Time for the real talent to come back to the front. Expect some changes come texas, phoenix and on. The spoiler wont even play into Martinsville.

Old races were better because of the aggression needed. But when you sit there and can watch battles all over the track for position on the new banking, i have to side with the new configuration. You can run the darlington top line or bristol bottom. And the top is the faster line.

This may be just my wishful thinking, but I think the spoiler will bring the resurgence of the 24. Jeff drove the wheels off the old car, especially in '07, and has never been all that comfortable in the COT...maybe that will help him get back into victory lane again.

That was my way of thinking as well. But we all know he won't improve until that moron on top of his pit box is back at HMS HQ sweeping floors.

Jeff was a beast at driving the old car with the spoiler. So was Tony Stewart. And once the wing was introduced... they both suffered. I pray that this will slow Jimmie down (flame me if you want, I don't give a FLYING YOU-KNOW-WHAT about what you think). Look at his stats with the spoiler vs. the wing and you'll see what I mean.

They need to fire Steve ReTardte for that to happen.

I think you may be onto something there. In the early 90s when I was about 7 or 8, my dad & I built a scale model of Bristol. It was 0.533 miles long. It had 36 degree banked corners, and 16 degree banked straightaways. When it was finished, we were confused why the banks looked a lot steeper than what we saw on TV, but we figured it was an illusion based on camera angles and what not. Maybe we were more correct than we thought?

I heard that same 5/8 mile line and LOL'd. Bristol is 0.533 miles long. It's ALWAYS been 0.533 miles long. SAFER Barriers did not change the listed length of Bristol at all.

I'm only now realizing how many benefits I have from watching Nascar from a young age. Track lengths were my first real-world decimals. :)

Old style, and not just for the wrecking. There was always some controversy, particularly at the night race. I'm hoping with the spoilers back, and the 'boys have at it' attitude, the Bristol night race will be back the way it belongs, with angry drivers fighting it out in the final laps.

Old style! More crashes!

:sarcastic:

Anyway, the OLD old Bristol was the best by far. The concrete old was still pretty good, but it caused an expensive weekend. The new one...enh. It's got good racing back in the pack, but as with any other progressivly banked track except IRP, you can be the slowest car and hold the pack up by running the middle or high line.
