Not sure how to do it. Lowering the drafting distance means the AI wrecks easy...

I dont think its going to happen. I know people have tried it in the past but it doesnt appear to be possible. No matter what tweaks are made, you still can barely get on someone's bumper without knocking that car out of the groove or straight turning it into the wall.

don't think its possible. I have been able to get on the bumper of someone and push them around the whole track, they "skate" around some if your not completely steady, and theyll go straight into the wall if your not square on the bumper

That's an interesting thought. Sadly, I have to agree with the others. It seems like all you can get in nr2003 is pack racing or no pack. I don't think it would be possible to get the two car draft in the game. And gordon is right, the AI are very hard to push and can be wrecked easily.

I also meant to say that even if you could figure out how to get locked onto the bumper and push, it probably wouldnt have the same effect as what was going on this weekend. It would probably slow both cars down and the pack would smoke by you.

Yeah, Ryan is right. The two car push, like I mentioned, wont let you pull away, you'll gain some speed, but not much and not for long. I was able to push the 56 from 5th to the lead in a bout a lap, but didn't hold line and went backward fast.

I once did by accident changing the chassis type to 2, and I know that you can make the AI harder to spin out...

i guess, not sure, it can be done if we change some settings from track ini...

but it needs to be tested first...

I see what you're saying, and i agree. It seems like no matter what you do, your car still gets "sucked back" to the pack. In the real daytona, cars would break away and leave the pack in their dust, up to 10 seconds behind (like in the nns race). Sometimes Nr2003 can be so frustrating!:arghh:

what do you mean?

I think he means that he went in the track.ini file and changed the chassis type to 2 (which is short track maybe? not sure...). Anyways, you get different affects with different chassis types. I experimented with texas and michigan, and found that when i change chassis type to 2 I can reach speeds of around 210. He's also saying that by changing the chassis type the ai have different affects too.

However.......I'm not sure I understand some of this myself. It was just a trial and error process for me. To acomplish the 2 car draft, it's gonna take a lot of trail and error/messing with files.

I knew he meant he went into the .ini file and changed that part. my main question was about his results on changing it and the 2-car draft. also, what he meant about making the AI harder to spin. thats my bad, should've clarified more

No problem.

I'm not sure I understand it either. My experiences with changing it to a 2 were a little different. I noticed that the cars ran in the 210-220 range mostly, and I would assume that it would be easier to spin them out. If his were different, we just have to wait for him to reply.

I'm not really an expert on this, but I'll try to help as much as I can. The physics of this game are pretty odd at times, so you never know what you'll get...

It is somewhat possible. You just got to make sure you are steady and you feel like your going to turn the car in front just back off a little. I haven't yet tried it a Talladega strangely enough since that's where it first started...

I have been able to get about 2 seconds ahead of the pack for about a lap or two at Bumpdraftin SS without editing anything.

Heck just this past weekend I did a race at Eight Bowl 08 where me and another car got up to 7.33 seconds ahead of the field while sustaining it for a good 11 laps!

Track.ini Tutorial

What I once did was change the Track Type to 2, and the AI Inverse Slip Curve could be key here. It changes how much the AI can be bumped before wrecking. Still, I'll continue experimenting. If the AI could bump each other in pairs it would be good...

That's a good start. Continue trying. That's how nr2003 is. It can be real annoying at times, but when you get it to work, it's all worth it. Thanks for the link too. Getting the AI to draft in 2 with each other may not be possible. It'll take lots of experiments.

I got a train of 5-6 cars to work together for short bits (6 car draft lol) but they always wreck too much, especially in the first 3 laps of a race. By the way, I'm using the original Daytona for testing.
