It's hard to believe we're talking about a hurricane at the end of October, but Hurricane Sandy is a cat 2 storm over the Bahamas right now, and it's taking direct aim at the northeast, particularly NJ (my home state) and New York City. Based on the fact that my power company sucks, I'm likely to be without power for possibly most of next week, which is incredibly annoying. This hurricane could possibly be one of the worst storms ever, too. Meteorologists are predicting $1 billion in damage, and other circumstances could make it worse. Not good news at all. (n)

I like the name that some of the media are using for it "Snor'eastercane (Snowy + Nor'easter + Hurricane). Definitely has the potential to be bad, as of the 5pm news they expected the center of the storm to basically be over my area around 2pm/3pm Tuesday but we're supposed to start getting Wind & Rain sometime Monday.

The weird thing is a few days before this storm popped-up I was laying it bed trying to fall asleep and the random thought entered my head of "ya know it's been a pretty lackluster Hurricane Season this year", then like 2 or 3 days later Sandy started to form.

I find it very odd that the Northeast has experienced more serious tropical weather than Florida has in the last few years. Other than Isaac and Debby, it's been pretty calm.

This could be one of those super storms...

Snow on one end and a tornado outbreak/severe weather on the other.

Yeah, you better batten down the hatches for this one. If this is anything like they are saying it is, we're in for some trouble. You are only about 40 minutes from here, so whatever you get, I'll probably get too.

Everybody be safe out there, this isn't looking like it's going to be pretty.

Yikes, right in the path of the storm.
Stay safe, my friends. Makes sure your cars are in garages if possible, and you stay in side and prepare wtih all your essentials including medication and food/drink.
A bonus: All classes will be canceled as a result of this.

Damn, I didn't know my mom was a hurricane. XD
All joking aside, I hope anybody in the path of this hurricane will be alright. :)

I am getting the worse part of the storm(NYC area) They predict at-least one week without electricity. I hope nothing big happens for me, and others' effected.

Well...this is gonna suck. I have work tomorrow then right after heading to Walmart to grab some supplies. Really hope this ends up like the last one (which slips my memory completely right now) where it fell apart before it made any real damage, well, any real damage up here at least.

Hopefully it stays warm enough here in CT to not involve snow. We don't need a repeat of Alfred last year. I highly doubt that one year is enough time for CL&P to figure out where their heads are supposed to be, and the weight of all that heavy wet snow did more damage than the winds of Irene. The river levels are much lower now also, so flooding shouldn't be quite as much of a threat as Irene either.

They're saying it's going to be bad around these parts in Upstate NY, it may be slightly ignorant on my part but I've seen weathermen get all hot in bottom about storms before and they aren't half as bad as they say so I can't get all worked up about it.

Downstate and in the Mid-Atlantic region though, I'm fully buying in on the hype, I hope everyone in that are stays safe and doesn't park under any trees!

Maybe if I'm lucky some mysterious hurricane force will make it so I don't have to go to classes and to work...but then again it's Upstate NY it takes massive massive storms to close universities and malls so I won't count on it.

For some reason I just can't be intimidated by a Hurricane named "Sandy" just not a frightening enough name

Looks like it'll miss me. But probably will get the remains of the storms.

The eye of the storm will pass over Burlington County in New Jersey if the maps are right...

Should be very fun.
