I lied about my last post being my last post. Still have power here, about 25 minutes ago it blinked off and on, and we've had a couple of flickers, but we're hanging in. Rain hasn't really been too severe at all, very moderate, but right now the wind is just freaking insane. I've never seen winds half of what we're having right now. We're definitely in the worst part of the storm, and I'm hoping it doesn't get too worse. We've already had a large branch go down from a tree in our front yard (no damage to any people or homes and it stayed away from the road) and our next door neighbor has lost a couple of slats from his fencing. That's the extent of the damage I'll probably be able to see until tomorrow as darkness is closing in rapidly. Again, good luck to all that are affected by this!

Hope everyone on the east coast is staying safe. Here in Utah, the worst we get is a blizzard every 5-10 years, flooding/flash flooding from heavy summer rains, or mudslides from heavy rains after wildfires. Went through a couple of hurricanes when I lived in Florida when I was younger but nothing compared to this!

On my smartphone. Power was knocked out around here in Hunterdon county around 730 last night, and huge powerful winds took out a few trees next to me. Fences have been completely ripped out and are nowhere to be seen. Roads are littered in debris, but seem to be fairly passable so far. Daylight is only breaking so I guess I'll see what more happened later on this morning, as for now...I'm going back to bed lol

CRAZY, My House didn't lose power. NOTHING MAKES SENSE ANYMORE!

My lobby is still flooded, so I won't be going anywhere for a few days. Otherwise, all is well here. Not that many trees down.

This will probably be the only time I post in this thread. I have family in Jersey, who are trapped by the flooding. They are all okay, thankfully, but my grandparents live on the lagoon and their back yard is destroyed from what I hear. There is water everywhere, and Seaside is in ruins. It makes me sad, because Seaside used to be my place. Hell, I was just there a month or two ago with my cousins. I live in NC now, but I feel a part of my NJ self around 24/7 in my life. So, in honor of my family, your families, and anyone just living in Jersey or the Seaside area...

It isn't much, but its 2:00AM. If I get enough time to sit down, I may make a real rebuild logo. Still, its better than the stupid chair laying on its side. This one shows feeling at least.

Anyway, have a good everyone, and keep my family in your prayers, as I will keep yours in mine.

^ The destruction of that coaster could very well be a blessing in disguise. I never got a chance to ride it, but word is that coaster was just awful. Old, rough, lame, terrible. It's demise creates a window of opportunity to rebuild and rebuild much better than what was there before.

Coaster manufacturers design small rides that are really good themselves. Seaside fans should actually be optomistic that an improvement can now happen much earlier than probably otherwise would have.

Yeah, I have to second that. I rode that coaster and it was awful.
Then again, how can we rejoice in something this small when people lost their lives and that fact alone that it'll take billions of dollars to rebuild the NJ shore?

"Rejoice" isn't the proper reaction at all, nor was it what I was saying they should do. Any loss of life is a tragic event, and many thousands are grieving because of that loss.

Okay so it'll take billions of dollars to rebuild. It's easy for me to say since it's not my home or business, but consider that all that's been lost there is a couple terrible coasters and some 1970s-era architecture. To me that's not a loss so much as it is an opportunity to build a far more modern, far more successful amusement enterprise. One that will make for a much better experience for its patrons, and contribute much more to the surrounding area and the local economy than what was there before. The New York/New Jersey area doesn't offer much in terms of roller coasters and amusement parks. The regional market is ripe with opportunity, and there's been a ton of innovation in coaster design and manufacturing in the past decade or so.

You watch. Once that place has been rebuilt, it'll be better than what was just destroyed. NY Gov. Cuomo made a similar point in his remarks. It's really the way you gotta look at a disaster like this. There will be many newer and better homes, businesses, transportation systems, boardwalks, etc built out of this destruction. It'll take a lot of hard work, but the area will be much improved for it. Isn't that reason for optimism?

EDIT: Just as a side note, no idea about the homes near the ocean, but no business owner worth his cash register is without insurance to cover this kind of disaster. Between government assistance and insurance money, whatever's been destroyed will eventually be rebuilt and rebuilt better than it was.

Adapt. Rebuild. Overcome.

I feel thats going to be my new user title. It really hurt's seeing these Jersey Shore area's under water, especially Sea Isle City. That's basically my family's vacation spot for the past 10 years, and seeing it underwater is just devastating.

Many treasures, Many people an lots of other things have been lost to this storm. Keep this in mind when you build near such a powerful thing as the ocean then there are those chances that is will be gone. Expect these kinds of storms to keep up each year, get prepared or move elsewhere.

Northern europe has some houses that float due to the extreme nature of flooding there

And so no one things i'm just being cold hearted here i have family from SC all the way up the east coast into canada.

So Halloween was postponed to Nov. 5 thanks to an executive order. Yet, all I saw was bitching from people saying "He shouldn't be allowed to do this". OK ASSHATS, LET ME EXPLAIN WHY HE CAN AND HE DID: About 80% of the state is still somewhat recovering from the storm, there is STILL damage around the state. I'd rather have my little brothers trick or treat when everything is cleaned up and safe, than now when a tree can still fall at any time because of the soft ground. Halloween CAN be celebrated later just the same as most places in the country are celebrating today. I applaud Gov. Christie for making the decision, putting safety first, yet others are attacking him because "he destroyed a holiday." Like really? No, he put your kids first, something you idiots should have done.

/rant (and when I say 'you' I don't mean people of SRD, I mean the idiots on Facebook attacking him over a sane decision.)

I would applaud him for doing that too. SAFETY FIRST OVER TRADITION!
