I need a bit of help with restarts and finishing races/not making errors

I've been doing the 2007 Busch season and...I seem to be unable to actually FINISH a race well or without errors.

Here's my season so far:

Daytona: Started 14th, worked my way up to 3rd, restart with 20 to go, got turned around, DNF, took out a few other cars

California: Same as Daytona, started 12th, fell back to 15th, restart with 30 to go, got a good restart, finished 14th (best finish so far ><)

Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez: Wrecked on lap 1. Thank you JPM.

Las Vegas Motor Speedway: Got pole, led most of the race. Got black flagged on the last restart with 10 to go

Atlanta Motor Speedway: Started 33rd, got up as high as 5th, pitstop screwup (overshot pit box), wond up a lap down, finished 27th.

See, I can do well, I can fend off the competition. But...I seem unable to finish races, or not make errors. For instance I'd have won Atlanta if I hadn't overshot my pit box

Anyone got any ideas? I may as well add a 'Cougin' it' decal to my race car...(WSU fans will know EXACTLY what I'm talking about >.>)

Well I am in the same boat at Texas SBP. In practice I am in the top 2 or 3, I qualified 12th. Start of the race I was 8th within 10 laps. About 20 laps in my car starts pushing badly. I finished the race (120 laps) in 11th but it was a struggle. But the only thing I can offer is practice, practice, practice. I have even gone as far a doing pit road practicing in the "Test Session" mode of the game. I have been sim racing for 14 years and I am still trying to figure setups and all of that stuff when I download "Revamped" tracks. But to me that is what makes it fun!

Agreed, my setups are good at the start of a run, but the car pushes no matter what changes I make at the pitstops.

Yeah I tried alot of different setups during the race. Tape, track bar, wedge, etc. I still struggled though but it did get "better". I guess in your situation practice seems to be the best medicine. I remember earier this year I dominated at the fictional Grand Detour track in the ASA 90 mod. I came into the pits with 25 to go, thinking I needed to add a splash of fuel and a little bit of wedge out of the car. Turns out I needed about 1/2 of a can to finish and the car was too loose. I was very frustrated when it ran out of gas with 1 1/2 lap to go, I finished one lap down. So things in these races can be very unpredictable at times, but man I get exicited driving them though.

Hey guys,
I understand the setups for these tracks are frustrating,
however, the best strategy for these tracks is patience,
Most ppl play the game with a mentality to get to the front as fast as possible,
i find that when u are among a pack of cars, use ur break, lay off the bumping and just take ur opportunities as they come, it takes some practice,
ALSO, learn the groves, this will help u be faster, and it will also help u understand where an opponent will go when he enters the corners,
hope this helped

Yeah I agree. Like I said practice, practice, practice.

Yea, I'm not that patient, I usually move cars out of the way and block them if I'm leading.

I've tried to be patient and it doesn't work for me

LOL me neither at times. Sometimes it sucks out front with no one to pass. I typically smile when I see a car coming that I can lap! :)

Ditto, I go for the really stupid moves (like going four wide at Daytona) just to liven things up

yea, haha, it get pretty boring when ur sitting there leading, so when my box on the bottom right shows i have lap car ahead, i get pretty excited, and if u notice, if ur quick about getting round those cars, you'll gain seconds over the guys behind u for some reason

(if you don't know what time talking about, hit F2 where it shows who's in what position, then hit the spacebar and itll show how far someone is ahead or behind right then

you need to move your weight back some and add TRACK BAR in RR. Around 10.5 on most tracks. REMEMBER, a little trackbar split will tighten car a little when out of throttle, but loosen when on throttle. Loose in beginning of run= NOT so tight in end of run!:D

Yeah, I would usually have it activated when I am out front. Lets me know if I am coming up to someone. But only if I am out front, or about to get lapped.

reason for gaining time is that the cars behind you have to negotiate the lappers too! So they slow down.

Also change my driving style? I tend to roll out of the throttle or use the brakes, get the car stable in the turn then hit the throttle out of the turn

Yeah, but only what you're comfortable with. I remember there were a few races I've done like at Dover and Atlanta where my rear was sliding all over the place. I personally like to have more control over it because a) if you're in traffic, you can really cause some problems by using the whole track to catch yourself and b) it can be really abusive on the tires which I usually have at 2x or 3x. But I found a rhythm and went with it and before the end I was making good times and my tires weren't cinders. I still would of preferred to not powerslide most of the race but things worked out. I guess I'm trying to say, you're driving style should be adaptive. Otherwise you end up complaining like a real NASCAR driver *cough*.:D
