Earlier today, I had an idea. First Person Shooters are hot right now on the market, but history buffs are turned away by fake Nazi zombies and unreal scenarios. Also, seeing as this is the 150th anniversary of the Civil War, I had an idea. Why not make an FPS about the Civil War? I could try to make it as realistic as possible, with the same amount of good old-fashioned shoot-'em-ups. Leave your opinions and questions here.

I think its been done before but it is one of the less focused on eras so it would be interesting to see it get another shot (no pun intended)

There might be people that would like. Then there would be people like me that would hate it. If you want to make a civil war era game real. It will be a boring game. The number one reason is the guns of the time. Have you every loaded or shot a real muzzle loader. They are not fun to shoot and you cant see for a few seconds after you shoot. A skilled person can load a in about 45 seconds to a minute. In the heat of battle up that to almost 2 minutes. I like having a new round in the camber after every trigger pull or pump. I don't care if its a video game or real life. Not to mention they are only accurate depending on the gun from any were from 100 yards to 300 yards.

Also you have to rember every thing was slower then. They walked every were. News took longer then to get to troops. Even in Vietnam it took a lot longer to get news then today. So how would missions work. You also have to rember some times they didn't move a whole 100 yards in days if not weeks. Even compare it to the Spanish–American War 40 years later. That war moved munch quicker.

The battles were also huge and long. There is no way a video game can make the possible. How are you going to have battle fatigue, hungry, low supplies, people with gang green in a video game. Its just not possible.

I am sure those are part of the reasons why there is no civil war game. Even though the war was a big part of America it was a dull war in terms of video games. If you can even get this off the ground. Don't plan on making any money on this. Also good luck finding a developer and publisher for this game.
