Here's a nice little brainstormer, if you could add a restrictor plate to any track...which would you choose and why?

(Sure this is a bit odd after such a dramatic wreck at 'Dega yesterday, but should be some good conversation.)

I'd choose Pocono. As much as I want to say Michigan because that place can be scary with these guys running without them...I truly would drool over the possibility of restrictor plate racing at Pocono. I believe it would bring out the best corner artists in NASCAR.

Sorry to be a Philistine, but could someone explain the concept of restrictor plate racing. I understand that it restricts the revs, but is the intention purely to control speeds at certain circuits for safety reasons, or is there a consideration of the fans desire to see the cars tightly bunched.

Pure and simple, restrictor plates are used to control the speeds. I believe Rusty took an unrestricted lap at Dega a few years back and topped out at 240...so they need to be restricted.

hmm... California sucks as a race... so lets put em on there...

Pocono would be my next pick.

Talledega and Daytona are the only tracks that should have restrictor plates. If they put them anywhere else, it would destroy the racing. The cars need to be going wideopen for the plates to work. But, if I could add one anywhere, it would be California. California couldn't get more boring, so what the heck!

Daytona and Talledega are the only tracks that should have the plates. Several years ago after Kenny Irwin and Adam Petty were killed at New Hampshire, NASCAR ran the race (when there was only one race) with a plate. Jeff Burton lead all 300 laps and nobody could pass due to the plates.

I didn't ask, SHOULD they add another plate..but put it this way. If NASCAR said hey we're going to add another restrictor plate race...bu the fans choose, and they can't say don't add it. Where would you put it?

I wouldn't put a restrictor plate on a track where the cars aren't going too fast unrestricted. Remember the year they put plates on at Louden? Jeff Burton led 300 of 300 laps in that race. Brilliance. :spinny:

Daytona
Talladega

Put them anywhere else and you would prefer driving an unrestricted COT over a COY car with plates on. It just doesn't work.

I say Michigan and California; with the exception of the Auto Club 500 this year, all the races at both of those tracks have been far too spread out. I think putting a plate on em would make it more interesting.

Just my opinion. :D

Gleason with a sweet move to keep the puck in the zone, and Jokinen puts it in...but Staal shows up when it counts the most and boom on to Boston.

If you put a restrictor plate on at Michigan and other tracks, you would get the nationwide series, where a toyota wins every race.
